I have the blind spot monitoring and reverse assist on my car, and honestly would have never considered either if I didn't find my "used" GT for such a good price back in February with these features. That being said, I really like having them on the car for tight parallel parking spots and think it's worth the extra $.

Okay, read most of this thread but still not sure which feature would help in this situation; backing out of a parking space in a lot and a car is coming from either side, but still fairly distant, maybe too fast.
BLIS, CTA, RPA or some combo? In other words do I need 401a and RPA?

There's only so much that any of those things can "see", so there's only so much help they can provide. There will always be "outlier" situations.

It might be best to try to avoid the worst parking lot situations and pick what you need/want from there, based on how often you can't avoid them.

I have both 401a (which includes BLIS and CTA) and RPA. I find the blind spot monitoring the least useful, mostly because I am used to looking over my shoulder when changing lanes already. The cross-traffic alerts are useful when backing out of a normal parking spot (not parallel) or driveway blind (e.g. can't see over big cars parked next to you or visibility of approaching cars is otherwise blocked). It will alert you of cars on the road before you can see them (and tell you which side they are coming from) but gives you no information about how far they are from you. Reverse parking assist is useful when parallel parking or pulling out of a tight spot where you need to utilize all of the available space but have a hard time telling how close you are to hitting something behind you. It will give you a clue about how you close you are to an object behind you and warn when you get too close but does not alert of approaching cars. They serve different purposes and are both useful in my opinion.

For this, you want 401a with BLIS and CTA. You don't need RPA in this situation.

Thanks!
Is CTA only for the rear, or does work up front also?

Everything only works in the rear unfortunately. CTA is of course most useful when backing up since you can usually see ok if you are facing forward (though there may be some situations where the big hood keeps you from pulling forward far enough to see cross traffic). I think the parking assist would be useful front and back when parallel parking in a very tight spot (again, the big flat hood makes it hard to tell exactly how close you are to the car in front) but alas, you only get assistance in the back.

Cross Traffic Rear Assist...

My dealer and I experimented with the CTA when my Mustang first arrived.
He drove by my vert while I slowly backed out between two large SUVs.
My CTA activated when his car was at least 50 feet to the side.

If the approaching car is going at more than slow speed or the driver is distracted...there is not much you can do if you proceed to back out.

When my CTA begins to beep...I usually stop and pull forward and wait for the other vehicle to pass before I again try to reverse.

My previous vehicle got side swiped in a similar situation when my rear bumper barely was exposed. The other driver had kids on board and was distracted. My rear end was not only damaged but also the rear of the adjacent parked car when my car was shoved against it. So three insurance companies were involved...the driver's insurance company stated that I was at fault for backing into her driving area! In Minnesota, it is usually assumed that the backing out vehicle is at fault for not giving right of way to an approaching vehicle. Luckily the other driver had admitted to the police that she had been distracted..so her insurance paid for all three vehicles.

This is why I ordered BLIS with CTA.
