I dont even want to see how much a dealer would take for my 2015 v6 with 4k miles. Got it for 22k im guessing they wont take it for more than 16k.

Also wanted to say, my cat has been costing me a lot of money. I will never recoup the investment - payment + food + accessories + healthcare. However, like the Stang, the expense is well worth it!

Go look @ used 2 & 3 year old CLS AMG 63's - barely used examples with < 10K on the clock are going for $70 - $80K & those guys paid $110 - $120K new!

Net - it's not a classic, Veyron or Enzo et al - it's going to lose value, especially in the 1st 3 years.

kbb doesnt mean shit cause it doesnt accurately track auction data

you buy a "special" ordered vehicle when it 1st comes out, you pay msrp. someone 6 months down the rd gets 3k in rebates plus invoice pricing for a total of 4.5k under msrp. If there was no depreciation, your already over paying by 4.5k. Then you factor in some deprecation, call it 10 to 20% mrsp the 1st year. so 40k, that would be 4 to 8k in depreciation. add that to the rebate and invoice pricing and you come out to 8.5to 12.5k in deprecation the 1st year if you buy at msrp with no rebates.

now the figures your getting from kbb could be high, could be low, the dealer isnt going to give you much more than what they can source one from an auction.

I tend to keep a car a year to two and trade it in. I always pay invoice or below and i wait until the rebates are really high. My last car I lost 200 in deprecation over 18 months. It had a msrp of 25k, I got it for 19.2k. I traded it in on my mustang. I paid invoice minus 2500 in rebates. the "kbb trade in" is 29.5k when i paid 34.5k. that is also at the worst time to trade in a car like this going into the winter season. I bet next may I will be able to trade this car in for 30 to 31k. Who knows though, this thing may get a blower if they can fix the cooled seats.

you can avoid the massive hit of deprecation by being patient and researching.

We wrote a check for the car when we bought it. The KBB values are troubling to me too. Since it will be willed to my son when I/we die I am less concerned.

I disagree with the season argument. I mean it's always sunny in Florida. ;)

But I agree with the KBB bs.
always exception to the rule sir, except the auctions will still have an influx of cheap cars from the snowy north screwing up the values in the south...haha

That's right- we pay for things that we enjoy and give us pleasure. Cars, pets, boats, motorcycles, etc. Nothing wrong with that unless you can't afford it or or are being irresponsible. If you want the lowest cost transportation, buy a 3 yr old Honda Civic and drive it until it has 300K miles on it. But they aren't much fun...

Exactly...! Someone gets it. And thats just my cat, wont start talking about the cost of my wife!

If you want to drive a new car every few years, consider leasing. For those buying pre-owned (esp a performance car!), the headache and hassle (and even cost depending on the brand) can easily trump any financial gains you thought you may get - so stick with reliable cars. If you keep you car for awhile and can afford totaling it, buy new, esp cars like this (NOT the CLS 63AMG, which is crap).

Ironically, if fewer people buy stangs new based on new car depreciation fear, but the market of people 'wanting to buy a Stang used' stays the same or goes up (add to the existing used demand all those people who were going to buy new but changed their minds), our cars will depreciate less!!

So wrapping this all up, my 2 cents: PLEASE dont buy a new Stang. It's a STUPID decision to make! :gossip:
But do buy a USED Stang. Not a Camaro.:ford:

Ok, my head hurts. Gunna go have a drink now. I'm outta here!

Unless it has GT500 or GT350 across the rear, the regular mustangs will always tank in value.

Paid $24,255 for mine
3 months later KBB says $23,733
Seems spot on for me.

It's a Ford. They drop in value like a rock. Wait 6-7 years and your car will be worth around 8 grand. Rule # 1 never buy a new car if you are worried about losing money. It's the worst purchase you can make. Rule #2 Never buy a Ford because it's one of the worst brands to depreciate.
Besides Chrysler.

We've traded Fords a few times in the last few years. I'm not surprised at all by the depreciation of any new vehicle.

Always sunny in FL does not apply in summer, when it rains every day !!

FL is really hard on paint finishes, especially dark colors - sun heats the surface all day, it rains mid afternoon, then sun comes out again to really bake in the dirt & create nasty waterspots. Etches the glass too
