I just checked KBB and the trade/resale values are unbelievable, especially for my specially ordered veh. MSRP on my car was 43360 in march 2015. KBB private sell is 34k & trade is 29k...wtf!! 10k drop in 8 months. This is very concerning for me. Gee, I will have to keep her based on those numbers. I have 10k on the car & it is loaded with the gtpp, ruby red ext. With redline interior/door inserts. Beautiful car!!! Dealer offered me 32k. Any of you have checked out your vehicle's values lately? You will be surprised/disappointed.:tsk:
"Special" order doesn't mean squat!!!

I just got an email from my dealer saying that they are looking for gently used vehicles for their inventory. Pretty sure they won't do anything for me considering I still owe too much, but I'm going to have them look at it on Monday while I'm there for my oil change. I am very interested in possible upgrading to a GT350, so maybe they can work something out when they become available, we shall see I guess

That's just a dealer tactic to get you in the door to buy a new car.

I plan to keep mine 10+ years, so the depreciation won't really hit me in the pocketbook. However, if the depreciation turns out to be as great as predicted, I may pick up a 2nd one in 2-3 years as a college graduation gift for my son.

Actually...a base V6 will probably retain the great percentage of original value...

Less MSRP...usually means less depreciation...
Yep.
I paid $22,945 (ttl not included) for my v6 51a package w/ spare and floor mats. 11 months and 6,000 miles later it is valued on KBB for... $21,675.

There are also other variables at work here. Try typing in a different zip code and you'll get a different valuation.

What happened? Umm...you bought a car. That's what happened. Perspective, used 2011 and 12 GT's are being tagged for 25K, being sold for 22 - 23K.

So as for as depreciation values are going, Ford not offering very many "premium" options on the Base V-6 is actually going to help me. I bought my Cyclone V-6 vert with all the few options that were offered for $28,700. I originally was pissed that Ford didn't offer leather interior on the V-6 base convertible, but my aftermarket Katskins leather are really stunning. So from what others are posting here, I can only surmise that my future trade-in value will not be dragged down by inclusion of My Little Pony Puddle Lights! Lol.

Enjoy your Mustang for what it is. Like the previous posts stated cars are definitely not investments. The minute you drive a new car off the lot it already has depreciated. I believe though the 2015 mustang is the mustang to keep since it's the 50th anniversary of the mustang. low miles and a well kept vehicle will help your value in the future but even then cars were made to be driven. It's the nature of the beast when you are dealing with cars.

Wow. Lots of anti-Ford on this forum! Not sure why people who don't like Fords would come on here just to try to make others feel bad. Not a thing I would do.

Before I bought new I spent a lot of time looking at various brands new and used. I'm happy with my decision to buy a Mustang GT. I have already discussed trade for a GT350 with a dealer and I was pleasantly surprised with the number I was given.

It's a Ford.
My FJ Cruiser on the other hand can be sold higher than I paid for after 3 years and 30k miles.
Because for some reason people are stupid about the antediluvian FJ. Mustangs do as well or better than most cars; no one should be surprised by a 20-25% drop from purchase price (not MSRP) in the first year.

I don't like buying new vehicles for that reason, but chose to buy a 15 Mustang because I wanted to be the first on my block. I was, and after a year I still have a car that I don't see on every corner, which is worth a lot to me. I am not going sell it for a while, so the first-year depreciation is meaningless. It'll cost me $4,000 a year or so when it's all said and done, and I am OK with that.

At least it's not as much of a drop as a new c7 would be. Got to pay to play!:headbonk:

Yep it's all about supply and demand and the volume of production. The mustang is a high volume car and will lose its value faster than a low volume car.

Don't buy new if depreciation bothers you for sure...i purchased new as I wanted the latest and pristine car that I would own long term and maintain from scratch. Not one that someone else has spent years farting into the perforated leather!

If you always want new and the latest cars, depending on the brand leasing may well be worth it. This is the way to go with BMW and Merc as their leases are incredible and resale/maintenance terrible.

Resale does matter, in the sense, even if you keep your car a long time but it gets totaled, insurance will pay you based on resale, not what you paid for it

I am reluctant buying a used performance car and hate the time/dealing with maintenance issues. I'm at a point I life where the cost of the Mustang isn't a huge deal but free time is... For crying out loud, I just got a bid to replace the siding in my house for the price of the Mustang...compared to siding, I can confidently say the Mustang will give me more joy for the buck...
