I'm trying to replace the shift knob on my '17 GT, but I can't seem to budge the stock one. No matter how much I twist, it just won't break free to remove. Is there a trick? I don't want to break something.

I don't remember having trouble with mine. Did you try heating it with a blowdryer or similar?

No, I didn't try heating it. I don't want to damage anything. I guess a hair dryer won't be a problem. Thanks.

Mine was hard to get off. Finally I had both hands on it and gave it a shock like an impact wrench would. It broke loose.

That didn't come out right. ;)

Sorry, I live in California. I only eat granola. :)
I guess liberal hands are weaker... :):)

Using some rubber bands or something similar will give you better grip in all seriousness.

I thought I was going to break the whole shifter when I loosened mine up.

OK good, so I'm not the only one having problems. I tried a little heat with not success. I was thinking of squirting some WD40 up into the threads. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions. The rubber band tip is worth a shot.

BTW that's Jim, not Charles.

Shift Knob

Hey Jim,
I too had the same problem. I felt like the whole shifter was bending. Trust me, I just kept twisting and it loosened up. Put a good twist in the tightening direction too, then try counter-clockwise. Might break the factory loctite free. I installed a white Roush knob and absolutely love the cue-ball feel/look.
