After 37k miles of street driving, a few seasons of autox, and 6-7 track days, my factory PP rotors are starting to develop a lip and will need to be replaced soon. After looking up replacements, I see standard aftermarket rotors on rockauto going from anywhere between $40 to $100+ per front rotor. They all of course are made to the same dimensions and are about the same weight, is there really that noticeable of a difference in the metallurgy? I've been using the Powerstop Track Day pads for the past year and have been happy with their performance but have noticed accelerated rotor wear. Is there a decent cost effective option for rotors that see occasional track use? My friend pointed me towards the Centric high carbon rotors but they're almost twice as much for an S550 as they are for his C6 Grand Sport.

I found the same with those pads. They ate my rotors in 3 months and developed enough of a lip (~2 mm) that they had almost constant noise. They are extremely abrasive pads when not track-hot and also have pretty corrosive dust. I won't buy again, despite liking their performance. GLOCs will be my replacement.

As far as replacement rotors, yep, Rockauto. These are for the PP brembos:

I run the Track Day pads as well and concur that the rate at which they eat rotors is somewhat alarming, but... I have been buying the el cheapo Centric C-tek rotors so the overall cost has been fairly low for the amount of performance that the Track Day pads offer. I run my car as a daily and run about an hour and half of high intensity HPDE track time every month and these c-tek rotors have been more than adequate. Never a vibration or excessive heat checking that I have seen in the past 2 years I have been doing this. The only caveat to those rotors is that they do not come with any rust preventative so I typically shoot some high temp black paint on the rotor hats to prevent any rust. Doesn't take very long and it beats buying more expensive rotors.

I can get all 4 rotors shipped via RockAuto for $170. Even less if I happen to get emailed a discount.

I think you'd end up better performance and much better wear on GLOCs (and no corrosive dust...of which the amount from the track day pads is insane). You get what you pay for.

I'm glad to hear that I don't need to shell out big bucks for rotors. I have learned with the powerstop pads that I have to clean off the bulk of the dust immediately because it becomes much more difficult once it gets wet and dries again. I've also noticed the dust will rust if not cleaned off which explains why they are so bad on rotors. Everything is a trade off though and I have been pleased with the track performance and the economics of them. My housemate with the aforementioned C6 GS runs carbotech pads (same compounds as Gloc) and has seen much better rotor wear but goes through (very expensive) pads twice as fast. He's also experienced some heat checking on his rotors even though he used the higher end centric rotors. The dust from the carbotechs has also permanently stained his brightly colored wheels. What I really wish is that powerstop would develop a street pad that was compatible with the track day compound.

I think you may be right about better performance, but bang for the buck I believe the track day with ctek rotor setup is quite good. I have yet to get fade on track and I actually haven’t had much trouble with cleaning my wheels... although, I’m not all that concerned with having the shiniest, unblemished wheels.

One day I may try GLOC. Have heard great feedback on them.

Gloc pads are not as dusty as some, but they dust. Fortunately the dust no big deal with a little soap and water. It doesnt embed itself in your wheel finish.
