Hi, Have a 2017 V6 Mustang Convertible and wondering if I need new brakes / rotors. Here is a picture of the rear brakes using a 6mm measuring tool. Seems like maybe 4mm left with uneven wear.

When looking at the front brakes, i can insert a 4mm measuring tool. I included 2 pictures. Not sure how much is left. Any thoughts?

Thoughts? Do the pads and rotors need to be replaced?

You are right around the minimum (I think 3-4 mm is min), I would replace but its not too urgent. If you have no symptoms like squealing, long stopping distance, out of balance rotor, etc. As a general rule of thumb if your brake pads are close or same thickness as your backing plate you should replace them.

I would replace pads.

Rotors depends, you may be able to take them to AutoZone or similar and have them turned if you have enough rotor thickness. But FYI sometimes these places do a shit job, if your rotor is a little thin I would just replace especially the fronts.

Never seen an Autozone setup with a lathe for turning rotors

Yeah, you're due to replace them pads real soon.

As for the rotors, there's a minimum thickness for those which you can check. If they're generally not too grooved and not at min depth, they can ride on.

If need to save money try and find some takeoff rotors and pads locally that are usually very cheap. Stock brakes are very good.

All the ones by my house do. I have used them probably 4 times now. My last experience was bad so next time Ill probably look for different location. I guess if your rotors are not warped you can skip it, but would suck for them to get warped then you have to do it all over again to turn or replace rotors.

Do what is best and affordable for you. if it were my car and at this age. I would replace the brakes and rotors as well as the hardware. Shop around for a good price. Brakes and tires are the only thing between you and the road.
