My 2017 has been in the shop since Tuesday with a ticking/knocking sound. It has 8k miles on it and has never consumed oil. The sound just appeared one day

The dealership just told me that a Field Service Engineer is coming to look at it. It sound to me as if the dealership is out of ideas and Ford wants a more educated look at it before replacing the engine, or something.

Has anyone been this route with their car (the field service engineer) and what happened?

The Regional FSE is the top Tech who is called in when the Service Center has an issue that they cannot resolve via normal channels OR where they need advice with the repair diagnostics OR need direction on how to proceed with the repair.

Doesn’t always mean it’s a bad thing, but the FSE sometimes has equipment that the Dealership does not have (or did not invest in) that will better help to determine or diagnose a problem with certainty.

He will go to the Service Center, look things over and make recommendations. He will or can also stay and supervise the continued diagnosis or repair efforts - it’s all based on the depth of the repair and his schedule because he visits other Service Centers in his region, so they are constantly moving site to site.
