After installing my intercooler I did a few pulls from 1st to 4th and when I got home the turbo was glowing red hot. Any insight?

Means you are making power! This is going to happen when the cast exhaust housing is heated up perfectly normal when ran hard.

That's why in semi's you let the turbo cool before you turn it off

There's no way in hell that shutting off a glowing turbo will not effect the oil inside right?

That the whole premise behind turbo timers. To allow them to cool while oil is flowing to prevent coking.

If you are not running synthetic oil, then you need to let the turbo cool down before shutting off. Regular dino oil will coke up on the bearings when shut down hot. This will lead to premature bearing failure.

Full synthetic oil, from what I remember back in my DSM days will turn to ash? instead of coking up. Either way, I would install a turbo timer, or let it idle for a minute or so after driving hard.

Coolant cooled turbos don't need turbo timers.

However it's never a good idea to go wot and shut the car off.

You always want to cool down the car as a whole by cruising around.
