Have a stock EB Mustang and went to show it off to family. Got back home and the turbo was Red Hot...

Drove it hard for 1-2 miles, sport mode, just going up and down the road.

Is that normal?

A little more background.

Was a hot day in Kansas (~90 degrees when this occurred) and went WOT.

It cools back off to rust color in a few minutes and haven't had any issues.

Just want to see if I need to take it into the dealer. Would like to start modifications but want it to work correctly before I mess with it.

Mines done that before. Just let it idle for a couple mins to cool down before turning it off.

Exactly why you allow cool time. If you shut the car off after running it hard that is what you'll see. Not exactly healthy for a turbo, look up Coked bearings. Couple minutes of idle time allows the turbo to cool down.

I had an Audi that the exhaust manifold always turned orange hot after driving at high speed for a while. Not a problem, I think. Heck, you can get your brake rotors that hot too if you are on a race track.

Interesting. I wonder if a turbo timer can be added to the various tunning modules(Cobb/SCT) to create a timer function to allow the car to run and shut down after about 5 minutes or a set time.

turbo timer isn't really something that a modern car actually needs anymore.

I'm not gonna lie that is pretty damn scary looking ha! Makes me regretting running my EB from 9pm to midnight Saturday trying to keep up with the big boys in Topeka....I'll have to check that out later tonight after work.

Also, hate to hijack but it is relevant. Turbo Blankets? Don't they help with keeping the temps down as far as heat soak goes?

Turbo blankets will help keep engine bay temps down but KEEP the turbine housing heat soaked (not a bad thing, keeps the gasses hot so they will flow faster). on the other hand ceramic coating the turbine housing inside and outside will have better results and wouldn't cost as much as having a custom made blanket made for the stock turbo. I have been doing extensive research on that very topic for my turbo build lol.
