If you don't take it in, you're helping the problem, not solving it. You should take it in. Maybe your dealer and your experience will be different and you can find the fix's part number.

My dealer said they called ford, and they told me "Ford" has nothing documented and knows nothing of this issue.

My bars are still in BTW.

I'm in no particular hurry to get in to a dealer. If it has a chance to get a fix documented, I'm there. I can wait until next week to see if Ford Service rep's in house guy 'can find' at least references to multiple owners with this issue (if not a fix) on their supposed knowledge rich Hotline. From what I read here, the problem is very well documented. If I can't get Ford at some level to confirm they see this issue in their internal Hotline, that is a problem 'another dealer' inquiry would not aid. I feel my time for a solution is much better spent by direct phone inquiry to Ford at this time. This way I have no frustration like I would investing time 'splaining it to a dealer from square one.

Just MHO.

Glad to hear your are still in Benjamin. Actually one of mine has stayed in for two months now from my replacing it a few times.

I may be of help. My convertible was delivered 1/9/15. My rear top (when up) was crooked. The car was in the shop for three weeks. I understand that Ford used my car as the test case for the repair. This WAS resolved by mid February last year.

For the ones that don't want to deal with the dealership (i totally understand), I helped a guy from New York do this repair at home. I'm just waiting for him to post our instructions in the form of a write up, this does include the infamous foam block trick as well. He should be posting within days, hopefully.

racerttx,
an instructional how to with size and density or foam type would be great. I don't really care if Ford chooses to not address this if a DIY fix and detailed instruction and parts description can be made available. Heck, with that info, you could take your DIY foam block and instructions to your dealer and have them install it if you so chose. Assuming you could convince them (their ego?) to take info from a mere customer. :eyebulge:

Nice color BTW racerttx!

Here's a not so great pic of the drivers side on the window frame
Redcruzer, can you confirm the orientation of this photo? It looks like there is an indentation at the top and probably a corresponding one opposite it) for the rod end plastic clips to go in to! is the indent shown in pic next to the glass? If so the orientation of the rod end clip needs to be inserted to 'align' with these indents inside the female part of the bracket that is permanently attached to the rear window sides. If we and dealers have been just randomly inserting the end clips, we are not likely hitting those indents!

Sorry to reply to an old thread, but I took some pics to make it easier to find for those who might be unsure. At least now I know why my top pops when closing, and how my torn headliner was caused.
Thanks Jim05, this pic shows the orientation of the straps. IF this is how they were from the factory, the rod should be between the strap and the outer roof material. :D

All, I was asked to report back to give everyone an update on this fix. Yes, after 6 months the fix is still in place. The Ford dealership did the work so I can not give you too many specifics. However I can tell you that the clip must go on a specific way onto the rod, and the foam block must be in a very specific place. Below is the CAS and CRM numbers from Ford. The dealership that did the work was Five Star Ford in Plano, TX. Ask for Chris in Service (972) 905-3531

Thanks drstara for this info. I just left all this info on voice mail to my regional cust. service mgr. that opened a case for me last Friday (and I have not been to a dealer yet). Hopefully it will help them find info on the only documented fix with the (anonomysly  ) Ford supplied fix kit w/ foam block and replacement clips. I am supposed to here back from my rep next Tuesday.

Mr. Stara, I'm glad to hear your repair is still good.

Everyone with this issue should simply visit your local Ford dealership and have them submit a request to the Ford Hotline to replace the entire top ($7k repair) due to the rear window support bars repeatedly coming loose during operation. Once they investigate they should very quickly jump to deny the 7k repair and send a 'kit' containing the clips and foam block. As far as I know there is no part number for this kit, no TSB or anything as it will have to be pieced together and sent from one of the engineers.

I did have someone call me and I am working on getting the instructions, I will share the info when I locate it.
Racerttx, Thanks for your superb research and work on helping with this issue.

Took mine to dealership for repair. Clips replaced. After a few cycles, driver side rod once again detached. Sent dealer this thread for further investigation. They tell me Ford knows nothing of this issue and has no "fix kit" available.

Any advice on how to get this kit and instructions to the dealer? I'm not sure what else I can tell them to get some action towards resolution.

The Tech on my car widened the clips and reinstalled and mine have stayed in almost a month now, and are still in.

Hey Dave, all I can tell you is that was the drivers side. I reached in with my right hand and just sort of waved the phone around hoping to get something useful.

One of the reasons that I read this Forum religiously! Ford has proven over and over again that it really doesn't want to be bothered with 'minor' problems such as seat cooling, panel mis-alignments, convertible window supports, etc. If you want it done (correctly), do it yourself. I have already printed out the photos for the fix...I plan on ordering the replacement clip-straps.

I had hopes Ford Service on our forum would be willing to send out free clips so we could do it right, because we now know the procedure. Dealers seem uninterested unless a fix comes from Ford.

I will ask when I get a return call from my regional ford service rep next week. But, I believe he will insist I take it to the dealer. I guess I could install the foam block first, then if the dealer installed new clips pop out, put them back in in the proper orientation. But a dealer trip is time consuming (and usually frustrating). :(

I am very appreciative of racerttx and Klauberm's efforts on coming to and documenting a fix! ! !
