Tony:

Here is what the opening looks like on a 2021 convertible, and I assume it is the same since 2015, perhaps?

The max height with trunk carpet removed is about 10 1/2" tall, which allowed me to build a sub box with dual 10" Kickers.

When you go to remove the upright(seat back), once you unbolt it at the two places at the bottom, do you pull the seat back up vertically to unseat the tabs, or do you pull the seat towards you almost horizontal? I don't want to break anything.

Hey Tony:

This I have done a few times, so I can share what I know.
Once you have the lower rear seat out and you remove the 2 lower bolts, the upper seat is clipped in at these 2 points.

Mustang rear upper seat clip locations.jpg

Note: You'll need to pull the plastic panels loose which hold the rear seat belt retainers.
I've learned to make sure the plastic is warm and you pull with some force once you get started. I break more clips going gently than when I let'er rip.

Start here - you don't need to remove the rear seat belts, just move them aside.

Then grab that backseat and give it a snap.
Have fun!

I also installed a quick release tab in the middle to give the upright panel another anchor point and it helped to stabilize it. I

I just removed the back seat in my 'vert yesterday. A lot easier than I expected it to be. I didn't realize that there is a pass-through from the trunk to the cabin until I removed the seat back. I assumed there was plenty of steel bracing for the structural integrity of the car with the top removed preventing a pass-through. Now that I've discovered the opening I'm VERY disappointed that the 'vert seat back doesn't fold flat like the coupe. It would make a significant improvement.

I'll have to puzzle over a way to make the fold down seat back work. I doubt that the seat from the coupe would fit but it might make a reasonable starting point.

They do make a rear seat delete with a dropping lower panel if you are interested.https://www.shraderperformance.com/product/15-23mustang-conv/

I installed speaker pods yesterday. What a difference they make in sound staging.

I’m curious about these speaker pods. I have done a system done as well and have not seen a setup like yours. We have similar taste since I chose Focal and JL Audio to complete my car.

What difference did you notice going this route with the installation?

3-way Focal Flax Evo PS 165 F3E
Tweeters Upgraded to Focal K2 Power TKMX
2-way Focal Flax PS 165 FXE
JL Audio H. O. Wedge 12 inch WS6
JL Audio HD VX1000/5i

The speaker pods put the sound staging in the proper place. Now with the pods and the correct sound timing through the Rockford Fosgate DSR1, the sounds come together right by my head. Now that the speakers are placed and angled correctly, I don't have to push the amps as hard and the stereo separation and detail are much better. Originally, I installed all the door speakers without the pods and the sound was off. I was not satisfied with it. The sound just wasn't coming together like it should be. With the equipment you have, it looks like you are into quality sound as well as volume like me. To me, the pods are a must. With the pods, I think you will find that you can turn down the brightness of the mids and highs a bit. As you know, the Focals are bright.

One addition note, the pods for the tweeters and mids were crucial for the improvement in sound staging. But because I removed the door panels again and wanted everything to match, I installed the pods for the door woofers too.

This is the way the trunk looks now. I installed two cooling fans in the floor panel. One fan blows into the spare tire well where the amp rack is located, and one fan blows up as an exhaust fan. The fans really help to cool things when I push it. The fans are wired to the sub remote wire and that remote wire receives power from the passenger side kick panel Fuse box slot labeled Windows and Switches(i think #23). So when the car goes to sleep, the amps and coolng fans turn off together. As far as the sub, could I have did the sub box facing towards the passenger compartment under the vert top box? Yes, however, with sub bass sounds the waves need a little more distance to travel to come together the way i wanted them too. That's why I faced the sub rearward and went ported. And with only going with one sub, i thought the way i did it was the best option.
Yes, I did use up more trunk space the way I did it. But, I still have enough space and the sound really comes together. I hope all that bullshit makes sense. Rofl

I hadn't seen this. It does give the pass through function but it eliminates the back seat. I want it ALL! I don't think I'd be happy without the seat. But thanks for the link.

I decided to change the tweeters up front from a metal tweeter to a fiber tweeter with a flatter frequency response. It did wonders for my setup.

Rear seat delete update. I bought and installed a rear seat delete from CM components on my 2017 mustang GT convertible. The fit was fine, the quick release buttons are a good idea, but those quick release buttons also rattled until I came up with a fix. Also, the carpet used on the rear seat delete rips at the edges way to easy. If the edges touch any plastic with the slightest edge, the underlying wood will wear a hole in the carpet real quick. I had to remove the vertical part of the delete, repair the carpet edge, and adjust it yet again. If this continues, im gonna use the heavier interior carpet I have and redo it. It sucks, but it is what it is. To me, quality and cost don't match up. A heavier more durable carpet should have been used even if it increased the cost a bit.
