Rear Quarter Panel Rock Rash?

After running 315/35-17's on my '98 GT for several years, the paint on the rear quarters have a sandblasted look. My 2015 has the performance package with the flared ground effects and fatter tires, so I'm wondering if any of you with some miles on your performance packaged rides are starting to notice rock chips or rash on the rear quarters? If so, are there any preventative measures besides mud flaps, a "clear bra," or not driving the car? I had a 3M clear bra installed on the rear quarters of the '98, and after several years it just looks bad...orange peel effect and a spiderweb look where it's seen rock impacts.

I actually have a bunch of rock chips on the front of the rear flares. Quite a few actually. Its got me rethinking wider front tires. Haven't noticed anything behind the rear tire yet.

This is actually a really good question. I was amazed at the noise of my Pirellis throwing winter grit all over the place.

I notice even on somewhat smooth roads the Pirelli's seem to pick up a lot of rocks. Is that a normal characteristic of these tires?

It's a normal characteristic of ANY soft compound tire. You should hear what DRs sound like when they are still warm and you're driving home from the track....

Hoosier A6's are that way. You need a "curry comb" to get the rocks and stuff out of them.
