Rear parcel shelf effect sound clarity?

Curious, if I fit some nice two or three way coaxial speakers under the rear parcel shelf lining, will that impact the clarity of the sound at all?

Won't it muffle the sound somewhat?

Has anyone mounted speakers on top of the parcel shelf?

I'd love to install some nice 6x9 speakers on top of the parcel shelf.

The fabric is pretty sound transparent.

Yeah, it's made with that in mind. Just like how most home speakers have thin fabric front covers/grilles. Won't make much of a difference.

Even if it does muffle a tiny bit, there's a reason they are called "rear fill" speakers. The sound quality of the rear speakers is really not very important. You could run a system on fronts only and the quality would be fine, only reason to even run rear speakers is to have the "surround sound effect".

I might just have some nice 2-way coaxials installed in the rear anyway as my teenage kids sit in the back sometimes, and would be nice to have a bit more "range" in the rear stage. They love streaming their own tunes via the SYNC 3

I use to have a 2013 Chrysler SRT8 which had something like 19 speakers and they loved the audio in that car. Eventually I want to install one of those Stealthbox subs in the boot for added bass too.
