Has anyone that has seen the 2015 S550 at a car show been able to open the doors and look at the back seats?

Are the back seats usable and will a 10-12 year old kid be able to sit back there comfortably?

As with all mustangs, the back seat has never been the priority as it's a muscle car. The back seating though doesn't seem it's be too bad though considering they increased the size of the car, but a 10-12 year isn't gonna like being back there for too long. Hope this helps :)

Are we talking six inches of leg room or two if the person in front is short?

I've had 2 adults in the back of my 2010 GT who were between 5'7" and 6' tall. For the taller person to sit behind me, I had to scoot my seat forward at least 3-4 inches, making it slightly uncomfortbale for me, but we can manage for short distances. I am 6'2".

There is slightly more head (54.9") and leg (34.8") room in the back because of the packaging differences with the S550's IRS vs. the S197's live axle.

Ive had 4 adults in my 2011 for an 15-60 min trips on several occassions. Heights 5'3"-5'9". Worked fine, just you need to drive closer than normal (not a ton) to the steering wheel and they have to be ok with being in pretty tight.
Supposedly compared to last gen the 15 is bigger inside in all dimensions but one. Doesnt look like it but we'll see. If it is, and kids are in the back, it will be a breeze.
Ive also done 3 people and infant seat (tough). And 3 people and small dog carrier.

I would go check out a 2014 interior as comparison. If your kid can fit in there with you sitting comfortably in the driver's seat, then you guys will be more than OK in the S550. It's the adults you have to worry about. I have my friends ride in the back of my '11 sometimes and the guys over 5'10 complain but I just scoot up a little, which is fine unless you're doing a road trip.

This picture gives you an idea of what kind of room you'll be dealing with. Based on the second pic the front seat seems to be pushed back a decent amount (both pics taken at the same time). I would think a pre-teen can do just fine in that space.

well
i would not be that pessimistic about the rear leg room
as always on show-Displays, the front seats are pushed back far too far just to create the Feeling of roominess in the front
if you compare the Location of the headrest in relation to the rearend of the dooropening, you will find, that on the pics above, the headrest is a Little behind the end of the dooropening.
if you take a look at the pics of that blond guy driving that convertible in the desert, you will see that the headrest (i.e. the seat is pushed far foreward)

take a look at this pic

http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/2015-ford-mustang-convertible-boosts-fun-top-article-1.1735296#

the Driver has his arms stretched out to the max and still nearly cannot reach the steering wheel
if he would sit correctly, shoulders against the back of the seat (i.e. firmly planted in the seat) and the distance to the wheel correctly adjusted (shoulders against the back of the seat, arm stretched out and your wrist being able to touch the top of the wheel) he would have to push the seat even a Little more foreward (increasing rear leg room again)

Well I'm 6'4" so there isn't going to be any legroom behind me anyway. Everyone that rides in my back seat knows to ride Side Saddle... LOL

I still can't believe that there are no damn rear seat cup holders. There should be one right at the back of the center console...

This is what I'm hoping for. My wife is 5'3 so she can move very far forward. I want her to be comfortable, however. Some of these pics make it look like no ne could sit back there.

here is a pic i found on

as you can see: the frontseat is beginning where the steering wheel is (reasonable Position) and there is also reasonable rear legroom for this Kind of car
Thanks for sharing the pic. I can tell that that would not be a very comfortable driving position for anything other than a short 15 minutes or less trip. I look as the back seat in the Mustang as an "emergency" seat so to speak. It will fit 4 if needed in a pinch. I'd say anyone over the age of 8 or 9 is going to be cramped for legroom in the back seat. I know I wouldn't want to be back there for anything more than a 10 to 15 minute trip.
