As this is my first wreck the process is a little new to me. I got rear ended (nothing bad) by a distracted driver who wasn't paying attention. They admitted fault and his insurance is going to pay for full repairs and rental.

I have a GT base and was in the market prior to the wreck, of a premium bumper. Any chance the collision center would argue the fact that they can repair the bumper rather than replacing it?

I know I can pay the difference for the premium bumper but I assume they're going to just bondo the bumper sand primer and blend it. Which is ok, but I would rather have a new bumper.

Depending how much the damage is on the bumper I guess. Is it broken or just a dent?
Broken tabs can definitely give you a new bumper, just saying.

They don't usually do bondo on these flexible bumper skins because it will crack if it gets flexed. INSIST on a new bumper skin! Your insurance company can/should help you there.

How bad is the damage? Go to a collision center you want, not where they want. Then have your center do their own estimate and have them put the premium bumper and valance on there. If there are holes or a crack I would get them to replace the whole thing. Even a deep scratch I would get it replaced.

Yes, insist on replacing it. The labor and materials usually cost almost as a new cover anyway.

You can request that the bumper cover of your choice be used as replacement.

As long as it's a factory part they can do it. They will most likely charge you for the delta between the cost of a Base rear cover over the one you want. If you're ok with that, just go for it. Prep, paint and install labor won't be any different.

There's a hole in the bumper from his bolt on his license plate and two tabs on the bottom of the bumper snapped off. ( I noticed this when I installed my catback the same night lol ). The scratch is about 2 feet long and 2 inches thick. The bottom of the bumper suffered deep scratches as well.

That'll be a replacement of the bumper cover for sure. As others stated, use the collision center of YOUR choice not theirs. Their policy holder hit you not the other way around.

If there is a hole in the bumper, they will likely replace the whole thing. Depending where you live, certain states allow you by law to demand factory parts.

Several years ago I had a leased S2000 and some dummy backed into it. I knew I was going to have to turn it in at the end of the lease so I insisted on new Honda parts. The insurance company and body shop were both not happy, because they wanted to use a 3rd party head light and used bumper cover. But under CA law they had to comply.

I'm not sure what the rules are where you live or how it would work if you want to use a different factory bumper. But it it were me, I'd insist on new, Ford OEM.

insist on new oem replacement. back when i was young and stupid the insurance company cheaped out on me and wouldn't even give me a taiwanese knockoff and told the bodyshop just to plastic weld the crack and broken tabs and fill in the rest. i made it only a few blocks before the welds failed and i ended up driving back to the bodyshop dragging the now ruined bumper behind me.

where is the hole? if that all there is they won't replace it for this little cosmetic damage. your worst concern should be whether they can color match.

I know it's hard to see because you want to justify a quick fix. This is a small area of a pic I took. Officer do you want any more photos for my case?
