I'm fairly biased against MN, actually. At least as far as weather goes. I think it's too hot and humid in the summer, and winter is too long and cold. I love fall and spring, but some years they are way too short. When you get a really nice weather day you definitely don't take it for granted.

I wouldn't even want to live up north in MN. Used to spend some time during the summer in a cabin off Devil's Track lake near Grand Morais. It's nice near Superior, but when you get inland it's way too hot and humid. And between the mosquitoes and biting flies - even the handful of perfect weather days can be a little tough to bear.
You have no idea what heat and humidity is till you are in the south or DC region in July and August and its 110 heat index with high humidity.......I've been up North in the summer and it felt fine to me, sure its was 84 or so one day and the locals were complaining about......the heat...I sort of laughed and told them, no....84 is not hot. In all the times I've been there and hiked the Superior National forest and the BWCA in spring, summer and fall......I've never gotten a single bug bite and thats wearing shorts and short sleeves. Guess I don't taste good.

Jacksonville, FL here.

No state tax. Low cost of living and cheap land available. Beaches, river culture, professional football.

The downside is that there are only two seasons: Hot and Summer. In summer, it is similar to winter up North... you spend as little time outdoors as possible. The other downside is that the topography is completely flat. The tallest hill is a garbage dump.

Sports car all year round, and no potholes or frost heaves. I drive my cars with extreme performance summer tires all year round.

I think anyplace between Charlotte and Northeast Atlanta near I-85 would be optimal for weather and business opportunities within your field. The entire 85 corridor is growing..

Carolina's : Greenville, Lake Keowee, Anderson, Clemson, Charlotte
NE Atlanta: Braselton, Flowery Branch, Jefferson, etc..

Atlanta is an okay place. There's a sort of "culture in the ether" here I don't vibe with compared to other southern cities, but the city is booming despite itself so that's a good sign.
I seriously, genuinely, firmly, truly doubt that statement.

Now on a serious note, if I was to move down south, it'll be Texas. Somewhere close to a beach.. I loved Houston area post code 77777 where I picked up my first Shelby.. nice houses, good neighborhood for 1/3 price for what I paid here in Newton (Boston area). Problem is my son is going to college in Boston now, so I'm shoveling snow for a few more years...

That's pretty far north, so you should be OK flood-wise. Heat and humidity were too much for me down there when I was working for the airline and visited Hobby 2-3 times a day. It's brutal.

Think about Arizona. Awesome year round car weather, very low humidity, lots of race tracks, lots of road building in Phoenix. I prefer Tucson as a place to live, but the job market sucks.
