Where I sometimes drive, there are mobile radar guns being used. What do you guys use for detection? Uniden, Escort, etc?

I think these days, if a detector goes off, it’s too late. Forces use laser, not radar these days don’t they?

I think most do use lasers. However, the one I saw last week, I'm pretty sure was a radar and not laser gun. Long box, big flat white area in the front.

Honestly think you’d be better off running Waze through CarPlay rather than spend the money on a detector for <2% of the guns that may be out there.

first off, laser is not used as much as you might think…it’s mostly Ka band radar all over the US. You might see a K band out in the boonies though.

Uniden R7 here, but honestly any of the big names are good. And no, it’s not an automatic save…but if they are using instant-on maybe not necessarily ON you, but NEAR you…it will pick it up.

…mine has picked them up 3 miles away when Waze showed nothing

Unfortunately, I think in the UK the laser speed guns are more common than in the US. I just kind of think using a combination of Waze plus a Uniden R7 provides a very complete form of protection. Nothing is perfect, always stay alert.

uniden r8 or Valentine V2 + waze to both and be done. top 2 units in the industry

Uniden R7 here. It has a laser alert too doesnt it? Works pretty good but yeah you can use it combination with Waze.

Usually when my R7 gives out a whistle alert its a cop.

A few years ago, I was driving to the next town through an area known for radar busts. This was early in the morning and no traffic. Waze showed the way was clear. Then, my Uniden R1 whent nuts. A lady in an SUV sped around me as I moved to the right and slowed down. Half a mile down the road, she had been pulled over.

This wouldn't be the only time my detector saved me. Waze is only good if there are people around to report.

yeah the caveat is someone reporting it before you! Early morning does run that risk!
