Ever since I bought the car, my father (owns 3 Mustangs) and my wife (can't drive stick) has been on me to add racing stripes to the car. I've been riding the fence on the issue the whole time. Truth be told, I do think it makes the car look sharp. However, my primary concern has been the long term care/maintenance and effects of stripes against the paint/clear coat. My car essentially looks brand new except for 3-5 rock chips on the aluminum up front.

If I were to pull the trigger and get stripes applied, what can I expect 30-40 years from now as a result?

Does the pattern matter? Will pin stripes wear differently than 6"+ stripes?

Thanks!

I don't think you can get gasoline in 30 - 40 years.

i cant see any more problems with stripes than you would have with paint
it will depend on if the car is garaged or left outside
here in Australia the main problem we have is sun we dont have t worry about snow and salt but the sun can damage paint big time if not looked after

I had vinyl stripes on my 2016. I took the originals off my car in 2021 because they were starting to fade. They’re a pain to remove as an FYI. Didn’t notice anything as far as paint fade or damage to the clear coat. I put a thinner stripe with a pinstripe on and you’d never know there were wider stripes on it previously.

I’m sorry, but stripes on a Mustang are just plain WRONG!
