I don't know the origin or whole history of the off center stripe, but I first noticed it on the Mopar Dodge Charger and Viper ACR.

I've always liked it :)

I like white stripes too it’s a classic combo. But given my car has a black roof, black spoiler, and black wheels I felt a black stripe would tie it all together. I also like the contrast of having a little bit of white in there. So the pin stripe and the period on the 5.0 badges is white as well to match.

I did the stripe myself it was actually quite easy. It took about an hour but that’s because I’m very anal about making sure it was perfect and lined up perfectly. Not a single bubble in any of the stripes. I would recommend just watching a video on it and doing it your self it’s quite easy. I used the wet method which is more forgiving to mistakes. I ordered my kit through bigworm graphix they were great and the material they use is high quality and allow for a lot of color combos.
I bought the big worm kit and figured I’d find a local vinyl company to install. Not having a lot of luck so it’s reassuring to here the diy wasn’t terrible. I may tackle it in the spring. Still have some companies to contact and one that would do it for $450. I also bought his tint kit, thinking the same about a local company. No luck there either. Haha.

I find the comments about the off-center stripes interesting. I think we get used to how "it always was" and don't really think that it can be different and still be ok. We all have different tastes, and there is nothing wrong with that. I like both the centered stripes and the ones that have off-centered stripes.

The non-symmetrical stripe is unique, and it is true to the OEM stripe.
My wife really does not like the logo in my grill because it is NOT centered... she also commented on the non-symmetrical stripes like yours. I like them both, and I like the symmetrical stripes on mine and the centered pony in the grill of yours.
This off-centered logo is just plain wrong according to her:
