Did Track Attack this past Tuesday.
Plug it in and forget about it was not enough, we were warned to not rely on it.
Problem is, as a first time track participant, the last thing I was thinking about was watching the red light that indicates recording, my eyes were up.
I‘m wondering how Race Keeper decides to film me driving or watching the track. Some of the recorded videos were just me while others were the shot over the hood. I’m really disappointed as I didn’t get “everything”, not even close. I assumed I’d have a split screen with both angles, I got one or the other. When I first plugged in the flash drive, it recorded me just sitting there waiting to go out. It’s supposed to turn off if you’re not moving and turn back on while under way.
This is just a warning to those headed to Track Attack and bought the Race Keeper.

Mine had both views. But agree, there were times I plugged it in before I pulled out and ended up having to sit a while so it was a lot of me sitting.

Did you run the executable (Race Keeper Instant Video.exe) in one of the subdirectories? Using that should combine both angles in a synchronized video for each of the recorded sessions.

That said, I was not so impressed by the quality of the video, and was having problems with the unit throughout the morning e.g. red light not coming on, so I wasn't sure if it was recording or not.

The annoying thing is that I had my GoPro with suction mount the whole time, but didn't want to fumble with it when I was already burning minutes running to the bathroom and fumbling with the harness!

I disappointed in Track Attack in general, expected more from it. Not sure why people so hype about it. It felt like being parasailing tight up to the rope puled by the motor boat. People who parasailing will understand.

I purchased race but keep having second thoughts after I keep reading stuff like this. Can we bring our own go pro?

I have been kinda worried about this also. I'm sure if you have no track experience it's fine. I'm just going for the hell of it I guess going to be hard hold back

I had fun, but I was disappointed that we didn't even get one session to cut loose without having to follow a pace car. I guess it's the only way they could account for the broad spectrum of previous track experiences--especially in wet conditions. I thought maybe we'd have a few laps where the instructor would ride in the passenger seat.

Yes, you can, but it can only be mounted by suction cup on the interior. I would've wanted to use my helmet mount, but I couldn't even bring my helmet because it isn't fitted with HANS anchors or a radio.

Imo it's more for the experience which is probably why it gets hyped up (and a bit of marketing). It's unrealistic to expect to be able to perform well and really learn anything in a matter of only ~8 hours lol. It should be longer to really get something out of it.

I've only been to the race track as a spectator and never have been behind the wheel so everything will be new to me. So it will be interesting and fun for me but if I had already gone to HPDEs or have already been on the track I wouldn't expect to get much out of it.

I imagine a big portion of the class are going to be filled with people like me who are complete noobs, and then the other half with guys who think they are "experts", and then only a small portion of people actually know what their doing. Its a big range and I'm pretty sure it's catered to the noobs vs the hardcore

They told me I had to use their helmet because of the communications.... is that true? I have helmet and Hans and would rather use my equipment

That is me for sure. Have no intention of ever racing, especially at my age, but just want the experience. Hell. where in NY will I ever be able to really open up this car, without risking getting pulled over? Or worse, come across some of the horrendous drivers here.
Hoping I can at least get the car up to 130 mph.

Disappointed enough to use a pic from Track Attack as your avatar?

Your helmet needs to have HANS and be able to plug into their comms. Yeah, I would've wanted to use my own helmet, too!

Never to old to race I'm 50 and still climb into a tiny formula car and there are a half dozen guys that are in there 70s still racing. 130 mph in NY? Watkins Glen is a great place to go 130 🤪 but racing is not for everyone and I get it and I'm sure the track attack is perfect for most people. I think it's great that Ford does this.

As a first timer, you’ll like it for sure.
As far as getting up to 130mph as a first timer? Good on you if you can, I sure couldn’t.
And oh ya, I’m 62.
