Hello all,

What is the expected mileage life for the R tires and what are your experience's...have heard 2000 miles and then they should be replaced. What are your experiences and recommendations for those that own the R?

anywhere from 5-8k is what most members are changing them at. We just did a tire service for a R client today with our machines, tires were toast.

Depends on usage. I have 1500 on mine including 9 ~30 minute track sessions. I think they might handle another track weekend or two before they're toast.

I got 1000 street break in miles and (8) 30 min track sessions on mine and they were toast. keep in mind I was running the stock alignment, so with camber plates and more negative camber I am hoping this can be extended a bit as most of the wear was on the outside shoulders. I will report back on my experience after the changes.

Those tires are gone.
For sure, just to clarify, I am hoping the camber plates and alignment will extend the life of my new tires that are now on the car. Pretty sure the cords would be showing if I had put another session on those.

Stupid question: how do we know when our Sport Cup 2s are toast? Mine also look like yours, and I also did my 2 track days without camber plates. I did not detect any degradation in performance, but I'm also not likely good enough discern the point at which they begin to go.

I'm hoping to get another 2 track days out of these tires with the right camber. I would hate to show up at the track and have my tires go to crap and lose a day.

Also, what's the collective thought on using race-worn tires on the street? I gotta believe they have a life left in them if used for cruising on dry pavement.

I wish I could answer the question of when we know they are worn out, but have not fully figured that out yet. Like you, my grip level had not fallen off at all on my tires as seen in the picture, but I was afraid of cording a tire and potentially wrecking my new ride so I replaced them after the event. I really wish I could put a few more sessions on them to find out when they were going to cord, but like you, I did not want to roll up at the next event and have it cut short with tires that could not last the whole event. You will know when they start to heat cycle out, but I think we will run out of rubber before we run out of heat cycles on these R Cup 2's. If yours look like mine I really don't think they will make it another full day, let alone two, but if you decide to chance it please let us know how long before the cords start to show.

When my tires were worn like the pic on my other street/track car I have still gotten a fair amount of street miles out of them because they had plenty of meat on the inside/center and you cant really push it hard enough on the street to further wear the outside shoulder that is really worn. It would be a bad idea to run them in wet/damp conditions, but I would have run these a while longer on the street if I didn't have another event coming up. These are all just my opinions as I am certainly not a tire expert, would love to hear the input of some experts tire folks on this topic.

2700 pure street miles on mine - they don't look much different than new. Probably 90%.

JMHO I think when one notices the lateral and/or circumferential thread groves are nearly gone, the tires are toast. Shame on you if you are wearing and running them with any carpet showing.

1550 miles including 2 track days (one of which was 1/2 in the rain so not even full track day). Everything stock, so probably need to do camber plates for the front. This pic is driver front now, the worst condition tire with no outer groove and middle groove nearly on wear bad --- others still have the outer groove showing clearly and abovewear bar on middle. I guess this makes sense on clockwise tracks, and maybe camber plates will help. I'm hoping to get one more full track day out of the set and will watch close for chords, but no loss in grip.

I have a spare set from the winter Walmart deal, and love the performance of these cup 2 tires but was really hoping for 4-5 track days, a season for me, instead of 2.5 -3 track days. It also would suck to lose half a day if chords start popping out.

I am considering running PS4 at 295 front and 305 rear size --- about the same price but nearly double tread wear rating for 3rd set. Not sure how much performance or wear tradeoff will be though. Best thing you can do is stock up during winter months though as prices are 20%+ cheaper.
