Have had the blower on the car for about 800 miles now and have compiled a list of questions for my fellow Edelbrock Supercharged mustangs here.
1. What catch can should be used with the kit? I desperately need one and haven't found anything that says which one is best compatible.
2. Should an oil breather be used? (This is my first boosted car so I'm not sure if this is a dumb question or not) If so, what would you recommend?
3. At idle after a while I'll here a very audible clicking noise coming from the motor come on occasionally. It's not all the time, and sometimes it will be normal then just start clicking away out of the blue. Does anyone know what the deal with that is?
4. Has anyone had a sporadic tick noise from the front of the motor near the belt? Not the same as previous noise, this one is not a rapid, rhythmic tick tick tick but rather a random click that happens every 3-7 seconds at idle.
5. What's up with no engine braking?
6. Do the Crash Beams need to be there? I have the Steeda Grill Delete and the Crash Beams from the Edelbrock Kit are super ugly.
7. There have been two occasions where I have been driving freeway speeds and give it a little more gas in a higher gear to pass someone and the CEL will flash about 8-9 times then go away. No codes. Anyone else have this issue?
8. If I turn the car off and turn it back on within something like 15 minutes or so (times like getting gas usually)it will start then die if I don't feather the throttle a bit. Any ideas as to the cause of this?
When driving the car is great feels strong for the most part but loses all its power if I have been driving for a while and it gets hot.

Thanks for any help!

I have the stage 1 kit with the Edelbrock 50 State Calibration.

7. Flashing CEL is a misfire. My first guess would be that you need to close up the plug gaps a bit.

Regarding the rest of your questions, there will probably be a few guys here who can help with some of them, but you may need to contact Edelbrock and discuss some of the issues you’re having with drivability and the tune in general. Or consider a custom tune, but I’m guessing you are in Cali if you went with a 50 state kit.

Thank you for the reply! After some google searches I found that, yes, the flashing CEL is a misfire and I have a slight fluctuation in vacuum at idle (between 20-19 Hg) which others were saying could be spark plug gaps or a coil pack going bad. I just ordered some MSD street coil packs as the ones on the car are still the stock ones. I would doubt it's a bad plug given they only have 800 miles on them. Hopefully the fresh coils and checking the gaps will fix that issue. Strange though that it wouldn't leave a code.

Coils don’t fail often, but if the new plugs were not gapped properly they will lead to misfires. Much cheaper to pull a plug and check the gaps than to replace coils 😉

I would agree completely. Pull the plugs and check the gap first. I’m tuned by Lund and gap is 28 - which is much less than what Edelbrock calls for.

I’m curious about your vacuum at idle in park or neutral. For my own knowledge - those numbers are fine and not the issue. What is it reading? Is this on the dash display or aftermarket gauge? What’s your idle rpm? My car is tuned to idle a wee bit higher as Lund sets it this way to negate any idle issues. I’m at +/- 850 and see 18.2 vacuum at idle average. Will bounce from 17.9 to 18.4 depending on temps. I think it may be a touch low but with the higher idle likely “normal”. You’re running the Edelbrock tune, correct?
My car drives better than it did stock and runs hard so not feeling there’s anything amiss at all.
Pull the plugs. Re-gap at 28 and give it a whirl before swapping coils.

Forgot to add. I haven’t had issues with the idling after sitting for 15 minutes maybe because of the increased idle speed. But, I can tell you the fuel rails themselves are HOT! Much hotter than anything else around there in the engine bay. It’s interesting too because I have checked with a heat gun at the track just to see temps of things (not looking for anything specific - just to play with a gadget lol) - but the top of the blower is always cooler than ambient after a pass. Noticeably cooler. Yes, I know it’s above the intercooler. But the fuel rails are consistently 140*. I think a return set up would keep those way more in check - at least the fuel temps inside the rails.

If you’ve got some answers, post them up. Not a big deal if there’s 2 threads... there’s already 2...

Why have more than one? I've asked the Moderator to make the EB E-force troubleshooting manual a sticky...

Why not have more than 1? People are going to ask their specific questions regardless whether there’s a sticky or not. There’s a ton of information out there about all the different blowers including the Edelbrock. Many threads for each. The forum is about sharing of information and ideas. If you Have answers post up. Not answering because you don’t like that the person created a new thread is silly.

I am using the vacuum gauge on the dash and watching the numbers. It's generally between 19 and 20 slowly moving around in that range. I'm on the edelbrock tune yes, where idle is around 650-700. Cancelled the order for new coils, hoping checking the gaps will save me that money. Edelbrock calls for .35 so I'll probably stick with that until I get a custom tune. Will update once I've finished! Thanks for the reply!

I didn't post to that thread because it has well over 100 pages dating back a few years and I didn't want to read through them all because that would take hours, but I also didn't want to ask questions that may have already been answered to some degree. So I figured I'd post my own cry for help to see if anyone else had my same problems. I hope that makes sense, I was just trying to make it a bit more direct. Sorry for the confusion, I'm new to actually posting to the forum.

I would close up the gap for sure. If they’re truly set at 35, that’s too much. Close them up to 28 even with the Adele rock tune.
Good luck!

I’m sure it left a code you just can’t see it with your scanner, Try forscan. You’re stock coils are plenty no need for MSD. I would guess that the new plug is bad before the old coil. Did you checked for vacuum leaks? If you need coils just get stock one
