Compared to other manuals I've owned (EVO, 370z, eclipse gsx), going into first gear has amazed me at how smooth it really is as well as reverse. First car that hasn't grinded on me or given me trouble when its cold.

I also have this thud going into 1st. the guy at the dealership even mentioned it to me during test drive and it is apparently normal. :)

This freaked me out thinking I was doing something wrong! I have been told the bracket you can buy will eliminate this. Not sure if true and the bracket is whiteline transmission mount.

Isn't there a sort of soft lockout for first gear if you are above 15 mph?

I never thought about it before but I know my '12 had the same bump/notch going into first sometimes so I imagine that it's the same thing in this one.

I was trying to do it in my garage... does not do it but now... I guess it is after driving a bit and stopping... no hrinding or popping but you can definitely hear mechanicals going when taking off like teeth meshing....... I can't for the likes of it understand why its more difficult for me to shift in normal mode compared to sport+... almost feels like learning how to drive a manual again or just a matter of getting used to this transmission.... Never ever went to top gear before just going 40 but its helping mpg for sure.... so used to being in 3 or 4rth... learned that from another mustang guy at work that has a 14 GT

It tells you in the owner's manual that you should be in 6th @ 43 mph. That goes for all GT's 2011+

yeah my evo x going into first was a pita at times. I love this new stang. I have drivin a 2012 and a 13 and the trans was better than my evox.

I really want to drive this new stang since I am consdering it to replace my evo x I sold earlier this year. while sevicing my wife's car I got to sit in a blk pp model and I gotta say I am very impressed the paint looked got the gaps seemed good. I liked the seating position and in person imo it looks really good. No car is perfect but a rwd beeast that looks good goes fast for under 50k this is the car to get.

The Thud coming from the transmission apparently is normal Just got back from the dealer... Its a matter of isolation of the mechanicals ... Audis generally isolate the sounds and many of the feelings of most all transmission components ... The thus is coming from the syncros which are still spinning when placed into gear which the meshing causes that thud... Got the trunk aligned but apparently it is the rear trunk(black piece) that seems to be glued in place...Not too bad but I guess its being a bit picky.. overall satisfied though

Yes, there are multiple threads about this in the Transmission/Drivetrain section.

I experienced this from day one and knew exactly what it was, and was never freaked out about it. There is a fair amount of feedback through the shifter for a remote mount shifter. It's just part of the deal. To me, the shifter is crisp and notchy, you can feel the synchros engage through the stick, and I still have yet to miss a shift. I did grind 6th yesterday because I let the clutch out before it was solidly in gear (short stroked it, derp), so that was all user error. The GT500 I drove last year, I felt like it had a sloppy shifter and I missed multiple shifts due to what felt like "moving gates." I personally like all the feedback in the S550 shifter, I don't have to guess whats going on.

Question for the people complaining about MPGs: are you running regular or premium fuel? Hopefully it does get better after break in period.

Not really complaining... second full tank of 93 octane.... what killed me was coming from the Audi which most of the time it has high revs usually in only third or fourth gear going 40 & above then in fifth in 60 and above (only 5 gears) now I am going in 5 cruising at 40 ... sometimes in 6 though usually 6 @ 45 and above except hard acceleration. Even though I am at about 750 miles the mpg is improving along with learning new shifting habits my mpg went up from 14.5 mpg to around 18 or 19 but only on the highway for about 20 miles @ 60 to 75 mph ... I am sure it will be better with longer highway time and when more miles get racked up... still way better than my truck avg at 15

I'm hoping for 20+ highway, I'm sure that's possible with plenty of people reporting that in another thread

Mine went up to 20 but when I got there so was my exit so the numbers went back down overall.. pretty sure it will get better when on the highway longer.. my transit is somewhat hilly....so it's not too bad
