If Ford wants to put a pushrod engine in the Mustang, A modified 400M would fit the bill nicely.
Fix the oiling problems of the past, aluminum heads, fuel injection and a stout cam

I think a Mustang specific version of the 7.3 would be sick.

They can make big power and are pretty conservative in the trucks.

If what Ford Authority is saying about the Ford GT possibly getting a twin turbo 7.3 liter Godzilla push rod engine , we may see Ford offer a version of the 7.3 in a Mustang to help pay for development cost and production cost.

Ford have a relatively new 7.3 V8 and are nearing the completion of development on a new 6.8 (with rumors of that having an aluminium block). So with those choices I'm not sure why they'd start pulling old engines from junk yards and putting them in Mustangs

If you want an old school push rod engine with more low end torque, just swap in an LSX. Otherwise, enjoy the high revving DOHC Coyote and be done with it.

I am of the opinion we can have both a DOHC Coyote and a 7.3 liter Godzilla to choose from in a Mustang. I would not object to owning both if available.

Ford themselves has given no indication that they are looking for another V8 In the Mustang. Why would they? It’s only us enthusiasts that keep fantasying of what we would want to see. The reality is we will see the Coyote in the S650 and then, well we can dream.

I took my buddy's modded SN95 out last night. Built short block. Bored/Stroked out to 347; longtubes: you name it. Other than the IAC valve acting up, everything was instant and felt/sounded amazing.

So in short, I'd love to have one but I doubt it'll happen with the way the EPA has been cracking down the past couple of years.

One of my many pipes dream for my New Edge is to do a Saleen SC351 style build. Big pushrod and boost. Or a nasty NA pushrod build. On the opposite spectrum is a Coyote swap. Lol.
