Nope it is true.
Fob hangs on key rack about 30 ft from my garage I can go out to the garage and pop the trunk without it
Thanks, I just sat down and you made me get up to try it. Fob was in the kitchen island drawer approx. 15 feet from my trunk. Had the door to the garage open. Trunk stayed closed. Put the fob into my pocket, walked out to the car, boom, trunk opens.

It can be 1,000 ft away, and you could still open it :D... because you DO NOT need the fob to open the trunk if car is unlocked. If you lock the car, no way you could open it with the fob 30 ft away, because it's designed not to. Try it :).

My new 2020 does the same thing and its really annoying. I asked the dealer about it and they said Ford changed it so the trunk wont open unless the doors are unlocked.

Not the case on my 2020, FWIW. I'm sure because virtually every time I go grocery shopping I use the button on the trunk to open the trunk first to put in my groceries, then touch the door handle to unlock the door and get in.

I don’t think that is true. My brother has a 2020 GT350 and it the trunk unlocks while the car is locked. I have an appointment this Thursday at the dealership for an electrical diag.

Just finished having my Trunk issue repaired, dealer replaced Body Control Module (BCM)
Trunk now opens without unlocking the car now. Make sure to bring both fobs with you as they have to be reprogrammed with new BCM

There was another thread about this. My 2020 also doesn't work, and the owner's manual clearly states that it should. I don't have the time or energy to deal with the dealer on this yet, so I'm interested to see/read on how others get this resolved.

Yeah, I saw that, but I would like to see a few more folks report the same solution before I waste (and let's be fair, most dealer visits are a waste of) my time going for a warranty repair without a proven solution up front.

Mine opens when the doors are locked and I have the fob near by so I call BS on your dealer.

Can you tell us which BCM was replaced? I believe there are 2 for us. 1 on the passenger kick panel and 1 in the trunk panel by the base speaker if you have one.

I have the same problem with my brand new 2020 GT350 Heritage Edition with the trunk not opening when the doors are locked. The proximity sensor is suppose to pick up the signal on your key fob when you are near and allow you to unlock/open the trunk without unlocking the doors on your remote first. I chatted with Soulja4187 and he advised that the dealership had to replace his proximity sensor to get it to work. This also affects the "reminder honk" when your engine is running and you exit your car with your key fob. In my case, it is intermittent. I did try to troubleshoot the hell out of this problem, including checking the antenna module inside the trunk located inside the rear plastic panel behind the tail lights. The module was plugged in and wires looked okay. I will be scheduling an appointment with the dealership and update this thread when it's fixed.
Finally able to give an update since I am now an unpaid part time teacher at home with my kids ( another discussion somewhere else!) So the dealership was able to fix my problem with the trunk not opening when the car is locked. They reprogrammed the BCM and the trunk is working the way it should now and they didn't have to replace the module. From what I'm gathering, this problem is stemming from the BCM in some shape or form with our cars.
