Project: Build a Spare for GTPP

We know most of the specs for the GTPP wheels:

Front: 19.0" x 9.0", +45.0mm offset, 255/40ZR19 tires
Rear: 19.0" x 9.5", +52.5mm offset, 275/40ZR19 tires
Hub Bore: 70.6mm
Bolt Pattern: 5 x 114.3mm

Project goals: Build a low cost spare that will fit both the front and rear of a GTPP equipped 2015 Mustang. Overall height should be close to the OEM tires to minimize differential issues. Target at least 50 MPH. Would be nice if it fits in the tire well but not a hard requirement.

Any suggestions?

Am I on the right track?

I think I may have a tire but the overall diameter is not listed.
Did a quick search but could not find that important tidbit.
Bridgestone Ecopia EP500 155/60 R 20 or there is also a 175/55 R 20
They are normal tires designed for electric cars rather than a short term spare so no problem with driving at normal highway speeds. In that respect it would be better than a normal spare.
20" so that it can specifically fit over the PP brake assemblies and narrow so it can fit the spare wheel well in the trunk.

For an inexpensive full size tire to work with the cheap wheel that looks to be about the correct rolling diameter this might work.

I did some checking on both the Summit website and Tirerack. The 52.5 mm offset seems to be the problem. My presumption is that the 52.5mm is how far the centerline of the wheel sits from the face of the axle to give clearance for the brake calipers. IF my understanding is correct, a narrower wheel and a smaller + offset would set the tire further out in the wheel well and give more clearance. There were some choices with Summit Racing.

Lug Nuts; It would be best if the wheel would work properly with the factory Ford lug nuts. If not, five lug nuts would need to be part of the spare package.

i too have been wondering about this. then i thought about how often you need to change out a flat instead of just driving it to the tire shop to get a plug/patch. i think we'll be ok with w/o one as long as its not a blowout.

Anyone know if a previous gen OEM GT 19" wheel will clear the '15 Brembo's?

A 245/45/19 is nearly the same diameter as 275/40/19 so it should work front & rear as long as it'll clear the front Brembo's.

just go to a custom Steel rim maker, there are many, and order a sample in 19" that has the correct barrel ID... done and done.

Ok, call me crazy but I have an easy fix. I use a 18" donut that you can order from Ford? As we all know it will not fit the front. However if you put a spacer in the trunk with the spare it will allow you to move the rear wheel to the front and the donut to the rear. A little more work but, none the less will not leave you stranded if need be. Assuming you get a flat in the front, if in the back then no problem.

FYI, after a fair amount of research, I found that a 19" spare for a Mercedes S550 (tire size T155/70R19) is within 1/8" of the proper overall height for a stock PP rear. My intent was to buy one and have an adapter made to mount it and clear the calipers.

I wasn't able to find that spare cheaply after looking around for a while (I have since seen a couple pop up on eBay, naturally), so I finally abandoned this plan and just bought the cheapest OEM-size front tire I could find, and bought a front PP replica wheel from American Muscle. Total investment $269, no adapters, no bullshit. I had an S197 jack which seems to work fine.

Problem solved. It takes up a chunk of trunk space but I'll never use the trunk for much of anything anyway, so be it. I will not be at the mercy of not having a spare again....

This is pretty much what I've done. I found some that will work but they would need a spacer or would work on the rear only. I will likely find an OEM PP 19" or buy one like you did from AM. The chances of needing it are rare but when you do it's worth the effort and price.

get another pp front wheel and keep it in the trunk... there are a lot of sets available. I'll split it with you.
