There's a lot of variables to sift through in choosing gearing for roll racing. The start and end speed, trans gear, and your powerband are important. I have a Whipple with 3.31. Peak torque is at 5000, I shift at 8000. 50 roll in 2nd = I start at peak torque, and I'm good to 150mph at the top of 4th with only 2 gear changes. The car runs very good in this range. I'd rather have 3.31 and start in 2nd than 3.73 and start in 3rd gear in a roll race

Totally agree. It be interesting for you to try and experiment especially with that torque monsteršŸ˜. Iā€™d have to gather your 2nd gear roll would rev so fast youā€™re probably grabbing 3rd right away. With the shift time introduced would be interesting to see a time difference from say 60-100 trying it both ways.

Recently did the roll race with Shift S3ctor at willow and i ran the car from 2nd with start speeds from 50 to 60. It pulls well, grab a quick 3rd gear and i was usually gone.

I like the way car pulls hard into 7800rpm, i've been told to try 3.73s but feel i'll stick with 3.31 for now to leave room for E85 tunes later

60 mph is a little bit of a dead spot for me currently. 6000 in 2nd or 4000ish in 3rd. I'm going with a stage 3 calimer and the gear ratios will be like making it around a 3.12 rear gear equivalent. I'll be around 5600 at 60 in 2nd and it will take a slight touch of sting out of it. Currently it is a solid combo from a 40-50 roll. With the Calimer trans it should be much improved from a 60 start.

Post up how it does for you, id be curious to know. My old MT82 (car has roughly 50k on it, P1X since approx 31k miles) is still going strong with a Barton Hybrid 3 mounted to the Trans.

Nice! Still holding up pretty good for ya? Weā€™ll Iā€™m pretty much dead nuts 4000rpm/60. Only other variable that would effect that is tire diameter.

What gear and blower do you have again?

i swapped to 3.31 when I did my vmp blower. I love everything about being in boost with the 3.31 other then driving on the highway. Iā€™m either lugging the engine in 6th or racing it in 5th. I need to be going about 80+ to use 6th.

Iā€™m looking into doing the stage 3 trans from Ben but Iā€™m worried his ratio changes may make me need to swap rear gears again.

any feedback on gearing with the guys with that trans?

Remember that the gear ratios changed up in the mt82 trans in 18 and up. So the your options might be different between a gen2 and gen 3 yote car.

Im stage 2 whippled on a 18 mt82 car. I have the torsen with the 3:73 gears. I personally love them and the car runs good to me. If i did anything i would maybe do 3:55 just for a little more mpg's while cruising. Cause i dont drive with my foot down all the time. And spend a fair bit of miles on the freeway.

If you mash the gas in 3 or 4th you donā€™t light the tires up?

I get a chirp in 3rd sometimes and thats it. Base whipple tune (620-650whp) running 295 ps4s rear tires. My buddy has a 2012 that just spins the tires for days n/a. He can not believe how well the ass end is planted. I do also have all the steeda goodies under the car as well.

If i could hold the phone shift and drive at the same time i would make a video, lol.

We went to the mustang stampede in makinaw and we played around a bit on our way home. I dropped into 3rd on the highway at about 65ish mph and smashed the pedal down. Straight as a arrow and no traction control light. That torsen diff is amazing. Automatically shifts the bulk of the power to the tire with the most grip. Complete opposite of a open diff.

Thatā€™s impressive. I wonder if the 2018 trans gearing is helping you some. Iā€™m a 2015 and Mine was 3.73 with torsen and pretty much everything else at 727hp and Iā€™d light up 5th gear on 305/35/19mpss. Swapped over to the 3.31 and hate it on the highway.

I know the 2018 gearing is longer than yours for sure. So between that and your 75-80 ish more hp maybe thats the difference. I turn just over 2k rpm at 70mph in 6th gear cruising mode. I get about 25mpg still at 70. 22 at 80mph. I would be happy at 25mpg at 80mph lol. But im not desperate for it. I still have my kooks long tubes to put in and my 1500hp gforce axles yet. But the longtubes will go in late fall. My tuner has a month wait for dyno tunes. Dont want to give up that much of my summer. And that gives me time to maybe sneak some other go fast parts in before a tune. Cams maybe? Stage 2 comp blower cams perhaps. Though i dread pulling the front cover off the engine again, lol.

So with 3.31 Iā€™m around 1500 or so at 70 which is way too low and causes me to always downshift even on near flat ground. To be in a sweet spot I need to be going at least 80 in 6th which is too fast around here.
I hear ya on the down time. I just pulled my engine out to be built so my summer is gone with the car. Iā€™ve got some L&M intake cams that seem to have really made a power difference when I added boost and lost nothing down low. Also half the cost of Comp cams.
