No customers have driven the manual Mustang yet in Australia but by all the reports I have read it is apparently a good gearbox. Why are you so convinced it is poxy?

The European reviews give the box quite good praise - I'd trust their word on manual gearboxes, as they'd get to drive some of the best in the business.

The U.S. guy's don't seem impressed with shift quality and certainly durability from what I've read. I'd rather it had the TR6060 that's in my GS and the guy's I've talked over there agree.

Think you will find most complaints point towards the 2011 models, its a different piece of kit in the new stang

Do you mean the MT82 has been improved/toughened?
I hope so....I put a deposit down last Monday.

After 9000Kms in mine I can tell you it is a good smooth box. 2nd gear can be a little crunchy when it is very cold outside but you can reduce it by doing a double clutch when upshifiting or just skipping it. Once it has warmed up, it's smooth as butter. The gates are tight and throws are short (both of which are positives in my book) but it is very easy to mis-shift. You will have to learn to trust the entering for a quick downshift to 4th or you will end up in 2nd. As the transmission is wearing in even the cold shifting issue is getting slowly better to where I only barely notice anymore. It is among the best manuals I have driven, and I have driven alot of them.

The MT82 is far from smooth. I have no idea what the people who say it is smooth drove before but it is one of the noisiest boxes I've ever experienced. The old Borg Warner T5 felt much better LOL. It has proven to be pretty reliable however. I've had a 2012 and a 2015 (both GT PPs) and they perform identically. They are both noisey, both clunky, but both have held up. I would much prefer a Tremec and when/if this unit fails, that is what I'll replace it with.

I drove Nissans, Toytas, BMWs and lexus.
My Supra is an Auto, but my Buddie's is the Getrag V160, it can hold 1000 hp but feels like it should be in a tractor, My Skylines had nice manuals, They both had that second gear crunchy synchro which was a known fault. BMWs were nice boxes nothing really special, longish throws was about my only complaint
The lexus IS200 had a very sweet 6 speed, smooth as silk, nice throws, quiet, it hated going back into first gear at anything over a 3 mph and were known to be weak if abused,

I'm not sure what's wrong with your MT-82 but mine is silent, it's only clunky when cold and a pleasure when warm. Maybe I just got lucky?

Thanks Lads,

This appears to be the main problem....remote shifter. This shifter would be a good addition it seems. At least until I do a 6060 swap.
