Hey guys. 2017 Gt350.

Driving fast on highway last week, I went from 5 to 2nd. When I looked at the tach, I was at 7k rpm...but could have definitely been higher.

Drove home without issue. Since then, start up seems a bit rough and slightly underpowered. No engine light. No codes. Mechanics said if it was a bent valve, I'd have a check engine light on.

Its in the shop now for a compression test. Has anyone gone through this before? Any thoughts? Thank you!

Did the engine sound like it spun too fast?

Honestly...it happened so fast, I don't know. I got it into neutral (what felt like) fairly quickly.

How fast were you driving? Did it redline or bounce off of the rev limiter? At 7k you had room.

What was your speed at the time? Redline in 2nd is around 80 mph.

Update. Compression test came back fine. However, my oil filter was THRASHED. Completely collapsed on itself. That would explain car feeling sluggish. And on another note...oil was bad and needed a change. Picking it up soon and hopefully back to business.

Definitely had room...but it happened so fast. By the time I looked at the tach, it was at 7...but could have been up at 9.

If you hit the redline, 8250, you'd know it. The engine cuts out for a moment, and comes right back as rpms go below redline. Ive done it multiple times with no issue in 2nd.
And btw, it you filter collapsed, it must've been very clogged and created a lot of back pressure. You didn't notice any changes in your oil pressure prior to this?

I got the car in October. Drove it for a month. Put it away for winter. I had planned on changing the oil as soon as it came out of storage(now). But obviously the goddamn dealship didn't change oil before I bought it. I should have known better. Anyway, the car drove fine before this incident.

Redline on throttle will limit and cut fuel and ign, but not on a mechanical over rev (there's nothing to cut). Also, mechanical over rev can cause filter collapse regardless of filter condition.

Again, how fast were you going at the time? If below 80 mph then no chance of mechanical over rev and nothing to worry about.

Also, which oil filter did you have? Can you tell if it had a plastic inner cage?
