Potential 2016 gt350 purchase - help :)

Hello,

I'm seriously considering the purchase of a new 2016 gt350, race red, with tech pack, and have a few questions that any input on would be greatly appreciated.

1) The dealer will only let me drive a GT, not the gt350 (as expected). I'm assuming that the overall driving experience, handling, tightness of the car, etc, is significantly better in the 350?

2) I suppose it would be a waste of time to ask for any discount on the cap cost at all on this car?

3) Opinions about resale value down the road?

4) Will I be missing "a lot" without the track pack (I don't intend to track the car at all though)? I also understand the 2017s will have the track pack as standard, but then the base price will increase :( Should I wait for a 2017 maybe?

5) Is winter driving (yes, snow, etc) out of the question, even with snow tires fitted?

I am paying MSRP from a dealer that is known for offering the best price, if this was not a limited edition and a regular GT the price I would be paying less than X-PLAN. I was originally told somewhere between invoice and MSRP until the dealer realized how many were going for over MSRP then I was told I was lucky for what I was paying.

So short answer is you can always try, but I wouldn't expect anything.

3) Opinions about resale value down the road?

If production of the GT350 does cease after 2017 then I would say resale value should be good. If it is extended and the voodoo is improved I would say it will still be good, but similar to what the regular bosses have experienced.

Plenty of threads on here about "limp mode" etc. It all depends on your plans for the car. If you are fine with the base and it will fit your needs go for it. If you are planning on spirited driving and track days then Ford should have a fix in the works, but it isn't going to be free and might not be as efficient.

Hack can chime in on this and I am pretty sure there are other threads on this as well. But, Hack lives in MN and has driving the car quite a bit this past winter and has said it does fine.

I have a 2016 tech pack car and absolutely love her.
Picked up my car in December and if I had it to do all over again... I would.

Resale value should stay strong
If your not going to put the car on the track the limp mode shouldn't be a problem and as stated Ford is working on aftermarket coolers (of course they are gong to be at an additional cost).

Significantly different in the GT350. Its an entirely different car.

Yes. They will sell above MSRP all day. Dont waste your time.

What's that matter? Are you buying the car as an investment? Or as a 'toy'? Vehicles are depreciating assets 99.9% of the time. If you're already thinking about what the car will be worth to sell, dont buy it.

Up to you. If I were buying a new car again (special ordered a '16, but cancelled the order) I'd want every single option I desired. So if you want the tech pack (I would) I'd wait for a 17

Depends on your driving ability and confidence behind the wheel. I drive my 600whp cobra in snow when its not too crazy. But I wouldnt recommend it.

I'd suggest that questions #3 and #5 are linked. If you drive it a lot in the snow, expect the resale to dive a good bit with rust. When people buy these things second hand in 5 years, I'd wager a large percentage of them won't be winter driven and in much better shape than yours would be.

Exactly what I was prepared to type when he asked but you then responded with the above. I would have no interest whatsoever in a GT350 if it had been driven each winter on salt covered roads.

I would actually ask for a discount. They go for MSRP in canada, if they still have a 2016 at this point they might not be selling well. Factor in its the tech package, I think you might be able to get a very small discount. I agree with others that 3 and 5 are linked. Long term resale is still hard to determine, if ford really calls it quits after 2017, I think they will hold their value extremely well ( look at the 6.2L raptors), if they end up making them for 3-4 years then will fair like the GT500s do. Unless the mustang v8 goes away completely at some point, then they will start to go up in value (just like the 6.2L raptors)

98% of all gt350's in Canada are going for MSRP.
Ask, who knows maybe you'll get a better deal.

If not tracking Canada, limp mode won't be an issue, we don't get Texas weather.

Investment, I would not do it that way, easier ways to make money,
but if all holds as spoken, should hold value well.

Winter driving, only if you had to, depending on where you live.

Trying to gauge a Shelby GT350 by driving a Mustang GT would be like trying to guage a Porsche 911 GT3 by driving a base Carrera. It shares nothing except driver visibility.

Oh and the headlights - the Shelby GT350 shares the same headlights as the regular GT (though they sit 2 inches lower in the body due to the widebody/redesigned front chassis).

1. I didn't ask to drive the GT350 right away. I tried to build rapport with the salesman, and gradually asked if I could test drive it. I joked with the salesman saying he could drive it and I'll just sit I ended up driving it.

2. I never consider it a waste of time when it comes to money. What's the old saying? "If you don't ask, you won't get it". I don't care what anyone says or what the expectations are. I will still ask. The worse they can say is "no" which is OK. But it doesn't cost anything to ask. As long as the amount of discount you're asking for is reasonable, why not try?

I'm not really looking at this as an investment, but I am also hoping not to take a big hit if I find that I do need to sell in the not too distant future.

As far as winter driving goes, I have a daily driver so not a big issue really.

Update - Drove the gt yesterday. Didn't like it - ponderous, imprecise/vague. Salesman has arranged for me to drive a gt350 tomorrow.

You're very wrong on driver visibility. The GT350 has much better forward driver visibility than the other Mustangs. Ford designed the hood lower and closer to the top of the engine. It actually makes a big difference. I'm guessing you are just making the typical internet statements here and haven't spent much time in another Mustang. I was actually very pleasantly surprised when I stopped driving my 2015 GT and got into the 2016 GT350 at the difference; prior to driving I assumed the change would not be noticeable.

Impressive that the dealer is letting you drive one. Pretty good dealer - must not have a long line of buyers like there were for the car I bought. This also tells me you might have a chance to negotiate the price down. But I'm thinking you won't like the GT350 if you are really that down on the GT. The ride is much more firm and body motions are a lot better controlled, but the two cars are still both Mustangs.
