I am looking at a 2019 Mustang GT with a Roush SC that was originally installed incorrectly.
The story is that the spark plugs were not changed at the time of the Roush SC install, and Ford Motor Company bought the car back at ~1,700 miles. Owner reported a misfire, and several components (engine/powertrain computer/module, clutch, and flywheel/flexplate were replaced at ~1,700 miles) in an attempt to fix. This all occurred before they correctly diagnosed that the wrong (ie the original) spark plugs were still in the car. The car was fixed by replacing those plugs at ~2,800 miles.

Questions:

- What is the effect on pistons and block with this sort of a misfire over 1,700-2,800 miles?
- Are there any cautions, watch outs or diagnostics for such a car that might be deployed in an inspection for the car?

Ford has extended the new car warranty from three years to four on this car, but I am awaiting details on the dates and so on from selling dealer.

Did you get the complete OASIS report from Ford?

Who did the incorrect S/C install - a Ford Dealership or the prior owner?

Is the car currently running/driving?

I will add that if the car did go through a Ford RAV Buy Back, the VIN is also forever tagged a Lemon. This will show up when the car is attempted to be sold, serviced at any Ford Dealer, DMV title searches, any VIN reporting agencies, and/or when trying to get it insured.

If you are seriously looking to buy, contact your Insurance Co. first and inquire to see if they will insure it. In some States, a Lemon’d VIN can’t be re-registered in the State where it was declared a Lemon.

If you can register it in your State and Insurance will cover it, if you try to sell it in the future, some potential buyers will pass it over due to prior Lemon history. Car Dealerships will also lowball trade in value.

Just making you aware of the above. Surely Lemons can sometimes be a good discounted deal to a buyer, but offloading them later can be a headache.

Thank you for the insights. I was not aware of the permanent issues to the title. Yes, the car is running fine since spark plugs changed. I’ll try to get the Oasis report.

? Ford bought the car back @1700 miles for misfiring, did not find the problem (incorrect spark plugs) until 2800 miles, who drove the misfiring car 1100 miles with no relief from Ford. Sounds kind of shady. How many miles on car now?

Here is the report on the engine and what not. Seems a bit light on detail compared to deets in CarFax. Weird that clutch failed. Seems like a no based on the info. Too bad. Low miles and an SC. And I love the green.
