Well its personal thing. There is noting bad about a tribute mod to make you feel like you have the real deal. How many 65 66 Shelby Mustang clones are there out there .. and 427 Cobra kit cars.

As long as the car is not misrepresented as the real deal, whats the sin? As far as buying used ... its buyers responsibility to do his own homework.

I'm afraid I can't understand how you could ever feel like you had the real deal when you know for absolute certainty that you don't.

 . . . but I can tell you that I wouldn't be buying them because of what they were trying to replicate. A '65 or '66 C-code or whatever would be a blank canvas for me to build up to a level not envisioned 50 years ago.
Something chassis-wise and mechanically a lot closer to this car ↓↓↓ .

I agree with you. My thought is, its not an R, it'll never be an R, so why try to make it one. Personally, I prefer some things about the non-R over than the R...specifically the track-pack spoiler, I think it looks/flows better with the lines of the car than the R spoiler. Just my opinion though, to each his own. I respect all takes at personalizing the car to you, and I get adding a few bits here and there from an R that you like. But to go at it with the goal of trying to fool others into thinking its an R is just a waste of an already great car...it kind of brings the car down IMO.

Its funny you bring this up because I was recently contacted by a local dealer that I had inquired about allocations with when I was first looking into buying a 350. They told me that they had a slightly used R and asked if I was interested. I had already ordered mine but was curious anyway since it was local so I had them send me pics (attached). The first thing I noticed was the seats and replied to the salesman and told him that it wasn't an R. He never responded back. Flash forward a few weeks and I see the car at a local car show. My first thought was "I wonder if the owner thought it was an R when he bought it", lol. They were selling it for $68,995 reduced to $64,900 so I feel like they were hoping to find a buyer that thought it was an R, very shady.

So, a funny update.

The person who bought this car spent an entire C&C telling people it was a R. That the real wheels were at home, etc. I knew about this car because a buddy of mine works at that dealership and told me about it when I was finalizing my search for my R.

Next C&C I parked my R behind him. I had fun with that exchange. He left soon thereafter and didn't try to claim to anyone else it was an actual R.

Curious to know, does the Vin numbers reflect any digits differentiating between an"R" model and a non -"R" model. Or is the dash tag the only true identity?

Adding R aero to my car (OEM splitter from Ford and Carbon2Carbon wing) since Road America is my home track and those components will be functional. Also added the rear seat delete kit from Ford and waiting for satin graphite 6gR wheels for Cup2 tires.

Not trying to make my car anything it isn't, but want to take advantage of the various go-faster parts that Ford and vendors make available in order to improve it for my purposes.

Maybe I should get a new license plate - "NOT AN R"

Besides, I already have one fake in my life....

I like to disassemble things.
Simply badass, Muligan.

I have near the same plan of action for my own GT350. And I agree with everything you said.
