Play DVDs?

I'm about to purchase a 2016 Mustang GT Premium and that has the 8 inch LCD screen, with all the goodies. I was wondering two things:
1. Does it play DVDs?
2. Is the zip drive slot able to play DVDs?

I currently have a DVD player in my current Mustang and I often go on 4-5 hour trips and theyd be killer without being able to have movies play as I drive (and yes, I know its not safe, etc. but i only play movies Ive seen a million times before and they're more of a background noise that keeps me company on those trips)

Obviously, the Sync 3 system is great and its not like Im going to swap it out, but i'm just curious. If not, Might have to buy one of those tiny portable DVD players.

Any info would be appreciated

And that's stupid. Rip the audio from a movie and put on a USB drive, if that's what you want.

Only way you'll play video is going aftermarket. No way in hell they would allow it with an oem unit.

That is a safety issue and illegal and stupid only makes sense in a family car in the rear seats

get a 50 inch widescreen tv and put it in place of your windshield, much better viewing angles

You wanna play DVD's, you are out of luck. I believe you will have some additional options with the Sync Lockpick to possibly add an external video source.

Since you will have Sync 3, you'll have to wait even longer as it will likely be a completely new lockpick that you'd be using.

They are great for also adding additional cameras.

Frankly, using a smart phone or tablet and the Bluetooth audio works great. I love having DVD in my vehicles, but I feel it's not needed with Bluetooth audio and a real simple temporary mount from Scoche to hold the phone/tablet.

Ignore all the naysayer with no constructive input. They may be dumb enough to stare at a movie while driving just because there's a video playing, but for the majority of us, we have enough common sense and self control to keep our eyes on the road while the passengers are enjoying the entertainment.

Both my Infiniti's let you play a DVD, but only when the car is in "park".
So, yes some OEM's DO allow it !!

Sync 1 and early sync 2 cars with MFT (8 inch screen) had aux inputs that would allow video to play.

If I was waiting for my kid or wife in the parking lot, you could stream netflix from your phone to the screen and sound system. But it disbaled as soon as you put the car in gear.

It became worthless when apple lost the analog outs when they moved to iphone 5 and greater.

Exactly. Ive had mine in my current car for 7 years and there hasnt been one close call because of it (i got a device to bypass the not-while-in-drive lock)...and my passengers are entertained on our long drives as well

I've watched videos on my phone while it was connected through bluetooth and never noticed an audio delay. I agree with those above; just use a tablet or laptop if you have one.

There are no longer DVD drives in the cars.. there is a video input at the sync module.. but at this point I don't know if the LockPick units work with sync 3 yet.. if you were to get one they would add the video in and unlock the screen to play while driving.. you could call them and ask about the sync 3 compatibility..CostalTech
