My heart goes out to all involved.

This just goes to show the deranged human will use the best tool available.

Looks like the authorities answer is to get tougher on knives instead of the problem. They want to ban knives longer than 6 cm down from 12.

If some in that crowd were legally armed, one of them might have been able to stop the assault.

Mass murder is not just an American problem.

This is the lunacy of the anti-gun crowd….lets ban all the guns so only criminals have guns. It’s already a crime to commit murder….if laws work so well I wonder why we still have murders?

I live outside of Philadelphia in Allentown Pennsylvania. Philadelphia news is characterized by "15 minutes of Murder, Rape and Mayhem virtually each day-Then on to sports with very little US or world news with a smattering of feel-good stories thrown in. This is a slight embellishment of the format-but very true.

Philadelphia has some of the toughest firearm laws in the country. These laws have not impacted the issue as firearm related events continue to increase.

A quote from Jeff Cooper. It does use rifle but also pertains to Handguns
  • "The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Good men and women are prevented from owning firearms while the criminals continue.

A few of our neighbors know of my past as they house sit/watch our Cat when wife and I travel. All believe in intense regulation of firearm ownership and in some cases outright ban for citizens. Funny thing is all expressed to me if the crap hits the fan, they are coming over to our home.

Last item to think about. When you play cards, do you show your hand? We all know the answer. Concealed carry and how you do this should be kept private. No reason to share this unless stopped by a LEO.

Nonsense - it is a uniquely huge problem in America vs. the rest of the world:

The problem with those statistical analyses is they don’t take into account the social-economics of the areas which have the most gun violence. The VAST majority of our gun violence occurs in low-income inner cities. Remove those specific cases of gang violence and our numbers drop significantly.

Now, compare violent crimes across well-developed countries but remove the method of violence and see where we stand.

Tell that to the people of Japan, Singapore, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, S. Korea and others where strict gun laws correlate with extremely low murder rates.

Your tone insinuates you don’t care to debate actual facts. Again, social-economic status has a major impact on violence. Show me where those countries also face the same issues we have in our inner cities.

Or just draw broad conclusions without any actual deep thinking like the mainstream media wants us to do.

Respect your opinion - but differ based on this point. NPR strongly supports gun control and advocates limited to no private ownership of firearms. This view paints a biased picture of what they report. Close friend works for NPR and many discussions on the inner workings of this organization support my opinion (they share this opinion as well and are a proud firearm owner 100% supporting private ownership).

What is not reported is mass murder/genocide committed by other means beside firearms. Also, case in point is recent violence/death by Hamas to Israeli's October 6. I know for sure the Israeli's would dispute the data here. It's society morales-Israel requires citizens who serve to openly carry their assigned weapons. Little to know violence occurring here. However, the Hamas sub-humans have no issue murdering and killing innocent people.

Switzerland has a tremendous number of privately held firearms, with one of the lowest rates of murder in the world. Norway and Italy have more legal restrictions, but still have a lot of firearms in circulation.

Higher gun crime rates in the US are strictly due to social issues that are somewhat unique to the US in western society. When a certain specific demographic is removed from the numbers, the US has a gun crime rate in line with Norway. Of course this is not politically correct to discuss, so the media will never mention it.
Where I live, guns are everywhere. Most people on my street have firearms. I can hear distant gunfire from the local unofficial range out in the FS land on just about any day that it’s not pouring down rain. Despite that, any kind of violent crime is exceedingly rare.

Remember that the politicians that do not want you armed are protected by people who are armed. There are no more important and worthy of security than you or I.

Also, consider Switzerland where military service is required for all males and they are issued a personal weapon which most of them keep after service. Odd how their gun violence rate is very low. Guess it must be the guns 😉

This is an incredibly entertaining thread full of Machismo when in fact none of us have a hope if targeted or random....all it takes is a bike rolling up or a stray and it's over. Zero time to react. No SF or super elite combat training will do a thing.

Better to get get ballistic security film on glass and some kevlar panels fitted to doors and other areas, or move to less ghetto areas if that fearful.

No need to stress. I prefer TX or any other place where everyone can be assumed armed to the teeth ....people tend to behave themselves, except in their 4th world hoods.

The fallacy in your approach is assuming any of us has any control over what other people do and assuming we don’t have control in how we train to react. There’s no machismo being spread in this thread, that’s the reply of someone who’s using emotionally charged language instead of logical reasoning.

By your inference we should just throw our hands up in the air and do nothing at all. That’s a victim mentality. I choose to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That’s how survivors are made.
