Personally? I had a high importance on a private plate my parents wanted to get me one for my 21st (they originally wanted to get me a watch but i bought a Hublot a few months before...).
!!!!
How much does a custom plate cost there that it is in the same bracket as a hublot for a gift... custom plates are like 30$ here

Couldn't afford V8--- but found this 'standard' plate VE08 MUS on the DVLA website.
Only thing is I'm not sure if you'd read it as 'V8'.
Someone thought it said 'vee ob'...

I'm gonna be the black sheep and say personalised plates is something I've never considered. I can't see the value, I'd rather spend the money on an optional extra or mod.

I've never bothered with private plates while driving previous cars, but as I decided to treat myself with the Mustang I thought it would be nice to look at getting a private plate for it as well.

As I never take myself too seriously, I decided to go with my initials (RC), my favourite number (07) and UFO as most people have no idea what the car is as it flies past them! ;)

Only cost me £250 including all the fees etc, so a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of the car!

Nice and simple mine, MY16 SSC. Cheap as chips but the extra VAT, transfer costs, delivery etc do add a bit on. Be careful buying around £500 ish, can jump to £800 plus costs easily, take it into consideration when budgeting. As the plate price increases expect more costs at the end.
If you buy from DVLA the price quoted is inclusive of everything.

They start at £250 and go up to whatever you're prepared to pay for them. MU57 ANG went for £10,000.

A fair while ago, in order to remove the "age" from our cars me and the wife put plates vaguely referencing the dogs names on our cars  Hers was K11 --- and mine was T4 ---. As the beemer is staying I've got T9 --- for the Mustang to match. All these were £250 plates and have little relevance to anyone but us.
I think that a 5 character plate looks a bit tidier but the main reason is to allow me to get a short, one line plate I can fit on a sto n sho. Don't know what it'll look like yet but I may find out on Saturday!

The good thing about that, if you're that way inclined, is that you could have a US size plate that those numbers would fit on whilst still keeping the coppers/DVLA happy.

This would give me a reason to get personalised plates, but the cost of a short number outweighs the benefits for me :(

You could also probably have your front plate 'off-white' and rear plate pale yellow without getting into trouble which would look even better. Could possibly even have very very very very very dark blue lettering!

Well, not really, unless the number is a 1. A US-sized plate is 305 mm wide. Correctly sized and spaced, a 5-digit number takes 316 mm. And you need a margin of 11 mm either side on top of that.

I'm thinking about a private plate to set the car off nicely. Never had one before and the one I have my eye on is still available... just need to take the plunge but the mrs job is unstable at the moment so I would be under the patio if I got one right now well before the car arrives.

Ive been looking at plates, was about to buy GT16 MUS but it went before purchasing, others I have been looking at:

GT16 USA not sure about this £399
US16 MUS £399
MY16 STG £799
GT16 ROB £999

MU16 ANG has gone which would have been good
ST16 ANG also gone
MY16 MUS also gone

In the end I decided to put my V8 plate on it that I had on my M3 as I'm going with a smaller plate upfront it will look better I think.

316mm would include the margins, which still puts it almost 1/2" out for the US 12 X 6" size, which is a shame as you could get it in a nice surround otherwise.

Like you say though, a 1 or an I would do the trick!

the '66' plates will no doubt be popular with Mustang owners when released in September, and they'll come as standard!
