Inspired by the photo's coming out of Silverstone where we (that were not there) were treated to a plethora of Mustangs of all colours with some personalised plates.

I'm interested in opinions as to importance of personalised plates for your steeds, How high an importance do you put to having a private plate?
How much would you spend on a number plate?
or are you content with what comes out the bag so to speak?!

It looks like a high number have gone for the personal touch....

I am completely bored at this time of night with nothing better to do than to check through a number of available plates (off the top of my head with any relevance). This may or may not help one of you lucky people that are picking up their Mustangs shorty...

The following are all transfixed by MY16 _ _ _

PNY, FLY, RED, BLU, WOW, CAB, XXX, AWE, BYE, FFS, WTF, LOL, GEM, JET, JOY, LAD, LUV, MAD, NAG, PET, REG, YAY.

And the following are all transfixed by GT16 _ _ _

FLY, RED, BLU, WOW, CAB, BYE, GEM, JET, JOY, LAD, MAD, PET

a lot less selection from GT16, more private plates being snapped up by V8 folk...i checked V8 prefix and theres a whole load that could only be matched with peoples initials as all V8 reg's that spell anything are taken.

Even the registration that was available for me only a few weeks ago has already been snapped up!!

Personally? I had a high importance on a private plate my parents wanted to get me one for my 21st (they originally wanted to get me a watch but i bought a Hublot a few months before...).

I'd looked at trying to get 'Steve/Mander/SM/SNM or Stang' into my car, I'd seen 'SM57 ANG' 'SM 57ANG' which set my heart alight, but it's a slightly illegal plate after respacing, and, I don't want people thinking my car is a '57' plate... My next option was F15 TEM - F1 5TE M. But that looked too much like 'Fist em/Fist Me', so i've given up on plates until i find SM + 2 numbers as a plate lol!

MY16 PET and MY16 PNY would probably be two i'd look at, GT16 being useless as i'm not a GT owner.

My car has the reg 'BK16 OSM', which will be respaced to BK16O SM or BK16 O SM. Or not even respaced, i'm still being so indecisive with it :(.

I nearly got BK16 EKO or BK16 ECO lol.

EB16 (For ecoboost) could be one you could look into, for the ecoboost owners !!!!

I'm a big fan of them, I've got 3 cars & 4 private plates (just waiting for enough budget to fix that anomaly!).

GT65 NAG cost me £399, & I've had almost as many comments about that as I have the car. My other private plate (SN02 RTY) cost £499, & I've already been offered £2.5k for it. So in my opinion you'll never lose money on them (& in some cases you'll make money), but more importantly I think it's the final piece in the jigsaw. If you choose right & buy direct from the DVLA, it's a very small cost to add a significant amount of value (monetary & feel good factor) to your pride & joy.

EB16 SNM is available at £599
The unfortunate part is, i hate my initials, as much as SNM can mean 'Say no more' along with my full name. It also means 'Sadism n Masochism' and I don't want it on my car lol... I nearly bought 666 SNM a while ago, when i was planning to wrap my car matte black, I may as well have bought the latex body suit and jacket with the mask to go with it then and there....

What i'd love as my reg plate is M4 NDR or SM44 NDR. but '44 is for 2043, so i'll have to wait till i'm in my 50's lol!

I found the perfect plate for mine being an S550 prefix with my initials at the end but sadly DVLA issued it in normal circulation and the car it was on it no longer on the road. Don't think I can get that one now :(

I'll be sticking with whatever it comes with I guess.

The only reason I was in the position of getting this car was down to someone very close to my heart who sadly passed away, never would have got the car otherwise, I wanted my car to have a connection with my old friend so I went V8 FDG. The FDG is some letters in his name.

I've got a plate with my initials on my black 5 series BM and I will be keeping that although I regretted not having the anonymity of an understated yet powerful car once I'd bought it.
No chance of anonymity with a red Mustang GT so I thought I might as well have something timeless and short which would look good on the car, hence I bought a V8 plate with lots of X's, relatively cheap at £399

Nice and simple mine, MY16 SSC. Cheap as chips but the extra VAT, transfer costs, delivery etc do add a bit on. Be careful buying around £500 ish, can jump to £800 plus costs easily, take it into consideration when budgeting. As the plate price increases expect more costs at the end.

Wife's and my initials coz it's true love  (me and the car that is). I've had it since my RX8 days back in 2006, £250 then IIRC.

I must say, the dealer made a fantastic job of the front plate, no holder and perfectly shaped and central to the bumper

I couldn't find anything with my initials at any price for some reason so I went with something I thought apt for a mustang, another v8, or a down sized GT Ferrari.

V8 HGT

It cost a grand but looking at similar V8 plates it might turn out to be a bit of a bargain. On the other hand I intend to hand the mustang down to my son who's first name starts with H so my man maths means nothing.
Now wondering if I should have ordered a black mustang and put some gold Hertz stripes on it.
