So, the dealer where I purchased my Mustang put on the Perma Plate interior coating because it was a showroom car. I suppose they wanted to protect against Junior getting into the car with his ice cream cone in hand.

However, it seems that the coating wasn't uniformly applied and there are some areas with "splotchiness" (best word I can find at the moment). I didn't notice when I bought it because it was getting dark out and I was an idio... er, I was in too much of a hurry to drive off the lot and I didn't think to thoroughly check out the interior.

Short of fighting with the dealer to fix it, any thoughts on how to deal with it? I didn't pay for the application because it wasn't disclosed to me during the sale and wasn't listed anywhere on the advertisement. So I'm not worried about that aspect. I have a California Special and part of the faux carbon fiber on the dash doesn't look the best.

You paid good money for you car and with the expectation that it would be delivered to you in new condition (assuming it was purchased as new) ... if the dealer did not disclose that this was applied when you signed your contract, then your expectation should be that the car is delivered in the same condition that it left the factory without the application of anything to cause "spotchiness". I know that you said you did not want to fight with the dealer, but they should make this right.

Sounds like they put the coating on without properly cleaning off silicon etc. from some other product or let it dry incorrectly etc.

Either way I'm with @ay1820 ie whether you paid for it or not isn't the issue, the issue is that they've actually given you less then you paid for. Your owner experience is diminished and you're the one holding the can when you want to sell it.

They shouldn't fight with you on this, it's entirely on them.

Google searching this brand/product leads to nothing more than a lot of fluffy marketing words and nothing on what the product actually is.

I found this comment on a forum -

" The impressive sounding “Perma Plate” process is nothing more than a wash, polish and high-quality wax job for the exterior. The interior is cleaned and treated with stain repellants like Scotchgard and Armor-All. The final product looks great for a week or two, but it’s definitely not worth the $600+ pricetag dealers place on this service. In fact, you can get the same high-quality detailing at most hand car washes for a fraction of the cost. The only thing you are truly paying for with Perma Plate is a finish warranty."

If you don't want to pursue this with the dealer, I would at least be asking them what the product is and showing them the problem, perhaps the dealership detailer could fill you in what was actually applied to the interior surfaces in question.

Otherwise, I would start off with some P&S Express Interior Cleaner on a test section to see what you get. Apply to the towel first and agitate, if the result is good, be more liberal with the product until you have removed the dressing they applied. If Express doesn't touch it, then you may need to progress to an APC, starting with a mild dilution first, stepping up the strength if required. From there, a steam cleaner with the APC would be the next step.

Ideally, you really want to know what was used, as I said there is nothing I can find that gives a real idea what the product actually is, was it a dressing or some sort of nano-coating? If it was a dressing, then Express or an APC will deal with it pretty easily.

Thanks for all the input. I'll look more into this.
