Mini van drivers are some of the worst drivers, they are usually dented and scratched to oblivion. They can't seem to stay in one lane, never signal when turning, slow down to well below the limit on main roads, are usually oblivious to anyone else on the road and will always make a right on red into oncoming traffic that is already in the intersection and then slam on their brakes, wtf, and, my all time favorite make either a right hand turn from the left lane crossing over three lanes of traffic to do so with a phone in their ear or a left turn from the right lane also across three lanes of traffic. Total menaces on the road always with a damn phone to their ear.

Don't even get me started on women driving huge Suburbans, Escalades, Hummers, or big ass Ram with an extended cab trying to maneuver into or out of a parking spot that's too small and only for economy cars with a toe hitch on the back using one hand because their other hand is holding a goddamn cellphone to their ear. Or my favorite ass hat that drives an extended cab that can't park straight and the back end is totally encroaching the rear end of the poor car immediately next to them so that the rear of their truck is completely blocking the person next to them from backing out of the spot making that person have to wait for them to return to said truck to pull out so they can finally pull out.

Haha. I absolutely loved reading this. Gotta love downshifting and speeding up next to a minivan driver who's holding up traffic and sitting 2" away from the steering wheel. Is there a steering wheel kit that gives massages or something that causes these women to drive with their chin on the top of the steering wheel? :p

Dude, I couldn't help but to go out and find this video that I ran across to add to your post:

[ame=""]

I am REALLY particular about where I park. This Sunday I went to a car show in a very nice area. I was forced to park on the grass between 2 cars. I had about 5 feet on each side, they could have swung the doors all the way open and not touched my car. I go to my car and low and behold, a ding with the paint taken down to the metal on my driver side. Looked to me like someone threw something at the car. I am beyond pissed, every nice car I've owned has been a target by some jealous asshole. I have had some horrible luck, including getting side swiped in my 5 month old 12 GT when it was parked. I decided I'm trading it in soon and buying a 5000 dollar truck that I don't give a fuck about. I'm tired of worrying about it every day. It sucks that people these days have no respect for others people's property.

When you're done, can I borrow this truck? I'd love to go squeeze in front of some double lane parking idiots with dents/scratches on their car.

There are only a small handful of places with lots that I'll park my Mustang -- places where most people parking are part of a community of sorts, like at the climbing gym I belong to -- I trust them more than half the people at my condo complex. At home I leave it covered during the week in a spot between where a guy keeps his motorcycles covered up. There are plenty of places with garages here, and then I'll happily go all the way to the top, and normally there aren't but a few cars up there -- I'm out of sight, out of mind then.

What gets me is how many people on here assume that someone who parks next to them is a prick who's messing with them or who's jealous. Talk about jumping to conclusions. This type of roadway entitlement boggles my mind. I park away from other cars. And occasionally I find a car next to me. But my first thought isn't "What an a-hole! How dare he park next to me. Can't he see my car is nicer than his. What gives this pos the right to park next to me?!" I mean, come on, really. Give me a break. Are there idiots out there? Of course. Are you going to experience one at sometime? Chances are good. But not everyone is out to spoil your car, despite what your paranoia and opinion on the human race may tell you.

Guess what? I used to drive a Dodge Neon. Drove it for 12 years. Since the day it was new, I parked it away from other cars or next to new cars. Why? Because I take pride in my stuff and want it to look nice for as long as I own it. Someone else might not respect my car, but I sure as hell do. I never realized, until this thread, that when someone saw my Neon parked next to them out in no-man's land they were thinking I was out to get them. Traded in the Neon when I got the 'Stang. Here's a photo of her at age 12, the day before I let her go.

if i had that neon, i'd find any parking spot available closest to the building, and it wouldn't matter if it's next to a minivan, SUV, monster truck, whatever.

pretty much what i do with my wife's nissan lease, since the day it was brand new, just like how any econobox car appliance should be treated.

she's had it for 2 years, and sure, it's picked up a ding or two, but that's what it's for. next year she'll have another new car appliance, ready for new dings.

I think you're not quite getting the situation. Sure, if you park out maybe just a few spots form the rest of the main cars in the lot then someone might come park next to you. Nobody can expect that someone won't park next to them if they only go a couple spaces out from the heard.

But if you park way out where you're the only car for 50 spaces and someone comes along and parks right next to you then something is going on. See the video in post #28 (link below) ... that's the kind of nonsense that's being discussed. Can't tell me that guy just went to the first parking spot he saw ... he did it because he wants to f*#k with people like true a-holes do in life.

I agree, some people are a-holes. There are people, however, who will park next to you who are like-minded, who don't want their car messed with either. That's what I was getting at with my beautiful Neon... Even though it wasn't an expensive car in comparison to many cars out there, I took care of it like it was. I'd park way out there and if a nice car was already way out there, I'd sidle up next to it. This way I knew at least one side of my car would be safe. The guy in the nicer car, however, might not have seen it that way... according to some on here. Anyway, my first point is - not everyone is out to get people with nice cars. My second point is - just because someone parks 50 spaces away from everyone doesn't entitle them to a neighbor-free parking experience.

WINNER!! That's why I responded. He asked why people do this and I answered. If you park a spot or two away, then both sides of your car are exposed. So the reason some people park next to you, is to protect their car and at the same time protect yours. But because some people think everyone is out to get them, they think these people are pricks. It's very possible that the owner of the minivan also has an expensive car in his garage and he thinks he's doing the GT owner a "solid" by protecting one of his sides. The point is guys... not everyone who does this is being an a-hole.

Only about 90% of them. I play the odds, and the odds are very good they're doing it with vengeance.

i agree with your reason partly, but if the car is dented all over or paint is falling apart, etc. then i would be worried. most of the time when i park far and someone parks next to me regardless of vehicle, it likely has no dents on mine as result.

There might be some faulty logic there. If there is a car with twenty empty spaces around it, you're saying you would park right beside it to give the driver peace of mind by protecting one side? If it was my car, I'd feel better if you parked two spaces over. As for protecting your own car, how do you know that the first car doesn't have a large driver who needs to open the doors really wide to get in or a kid on the passenger side?

Around here, I park a few spaces farther away than the majority of the cars and like-minded drivers will park with at least a one space cushion.
