Well that blows. Hopefully the new head unit can be retrofitted to 15's for us early adopters.

Not sure I can actually answer that, but the Ford website does describe Sync Gen 3 is a touted feature for future vehicles
It's already been stated multiple times - it isn't backwards compatible. Even the screen is different tech.

I know the hardware might need to be replaced - but what about the speaker wiring, GPS antenna, etc. Do you think those will be compatible if the actual Sync3 head unit replaced the MFT?

As others have stated, the dimensions of their demo screen look very similar to those of the MFT screen (on the same IP). So the photos lead to believe that the system will fit the '15 stang. Just need to know if the supporting hardware will support Sync3 as well.

My guess is all of the supporting hardware + the main unit would need to be retrofitted as well, assuming they left the main interfaces the same (for A/C, USB, speakers etc.) I assume the speaker harnesses would stay the same because of cost. As mentioned right after your comment, I am sure someone will figure it out.

The question would be cost - and I'm simply not interested enough to take on that expense, because I assume it'll be fairly high.
