Hi All,

As many of you know I've just had the exterior plastics painted gloss black by a friend of mine. And thanks to @Snort and @Jury I now have a set of spare exterior plastics.

I've spoken to my friend, who's local to me, and he's agreed that for £225 if I give him the plastics, he can paint them in whatever colour you'd want (gloss black, body matching etc, etc). And then deliver them back to me.

My question is, after the demand I had at wolves yesterday, (about 4 or 5 people asking to have it done), does anyone want to go 'In' on this, and I can arrange to have it done for you, also, if there's multiple, I can keep this thread running and put people on a list for having the plastics painted, being picked up etc.

The process I was thinking would go something like this:
1) You pay me £225 (Bank xfer or gifted to paypal)
2) I handover my parts and pay my guy the £225 (He works in cash)
3) He sprays the parts and returns them to me within 2 days (This involves Cleaning the parts, Sanding them down, priming them, sanding them again and then repriming so they're completely smooth, then painting ontop of them (proper spray gun), lacquering etc, the parts are also baked and cured within an oven and painted in a professional painting booth, the chap works for a professional auto repair store.
4) You collect the parts, or meet me at a mutual location, and get them fitted.
If there's another person who wants to take advantage off this deal then....
6) You return your now 'spare parts' to me, and I repeat the process from steps 1-4 with the other person.

Let me know below if you're interested.

That's a cracking deal mate...when you say "parts" what are we talking? Just the skirts and the rear? Or the front splitter too? What about the grilles?

By painting, do you mean plasticising, priming, painting and lacquering? Anything else won't last. Also, physically removing and replacing the trims is no easy task - see what just the rear trim entailed! They don't come off easy.

I removed the rear trim without removing the bumper, it's clips and push pins and 6 7mm screws, it's fairly easy, but a bit fiddly.
Side skirts are 2 rivets and pins, front is just pins.

The guy Sands, Primes, Sands and primes again to flatten the plastics, then paints then and laquers them, he's a professional car mechanic and paint sprayer (Specialises in paint work for crashed cars for AutoFix)

Kristian87 When I say parts I'm talking rear valance, side skirts and front splitter all primes, flattened, painted, lacquered etc for £225.

Great idea Steve

Couple O' Questions:-

1. You mentioned previously that your front Splitter on the EB is different from the GT.
Does this mean that the 'spare set' will not be a full GT Set?

2. Would you consider Shipping the Trims to Scotland?

Well, if you have the conjones to remove and replace ourself, then £225 is an excellent price. Doing the grills and fog surrounds would be another order of pain, I guess

1. Set would have a Ecoboost splitter AT THE MOMENT. The hope is I'm getting another GT splitter with the brace, and then if it's a GT owner I can pass on the GT splitter etc.

So for now, yes, for the future, hopefully not.

2. Yes but you'd (or buyer) have to pay for them to come up, and then your bits back down (probably wouldn't be more than £20 each way at a guess), as in this case I'd be controlling the parts, for the price

Maoilearca I did, it aint all that hard to be honest, I'll write a process up for anyone wishing to do it themselves as Bill from CJP ignored a few key parts/bits that make the process easier..
I did it mainly without using a jack, my hands, a 7mm bolt, and pliers to make taking the trim pieces off ;)!

It'd be a case that whoever had these, would have the painted parts, AND THEIR PARTS so they wouldn't be off the road for long, and wouldn't need to ship their parts down until they'd installed the painted parts.

Can't help but feel you enjoy this more than Business Analysing ;)
Good idea. One for the future for me when the dull plastics get too much.

Oddly, making processes is part of the job ;)

Looking like i'll have a GT splitter this week as well, so can do both sets (GT and EB).

If you'd like to be on the list, drop a reply and can get the ball rolling :headbang:

If you want them colour coded, he's happy to mix the paint to whatever colour code you provide ;)!

Side Skirts, Rear Vallance, Front splitter for £175 from my mate, however that was 'mates rates'. They've been flattened etc. I spoke to him about a deal for the forums as others were interested and he's said £225 per set. So the offers open to anyone as I have a GT/EB (Both splitters) set available for trade, you've just got to arrange pickup from me and i'll sort the painting side of things with him, and then dropoff of your old parts once you've fitted again.

I've been thinking of getting this done. Was quoted £300 for dipping!

The removal of the plastic parts, is there a guide to do this? I'm terrible with DIY so that's the one issue I see!

300 sounds reasonable for dipping I think.
