Bodyshop job that, get it booked in asap. Dealer should have offered straight away, definitely not a buff out job!
To be fair, the dealer did offer straight away although did say "buff out". I didn't think you could buff out a scratch that's clearly down to the primer, but wondered in desperation if there's any 'magic' alternative solution to respraying. Absolutely dread the thought of it going into a main dealer body shop. It's almost certainly going to come out worse than it went in, with added tea mug rings on the dash and grease stains all over the seats for good measure.

Benfield Sunderland, looking at the photos I saw it's a definite case of underestimating how quickly that backend goes when you poke it. Wall meets rear end.

They can in theory do a smart repair which is generally better option than respraying and will be just as good of job if not better. :)

Booked back in to the bodyshop on 11th Jan, reckon it'll be 3 days to fix it. I've told the GM at dealership they have 1 chance to get this right, if it happens again then i want a new bumper ... he agrees.

Can't loan me their GT since its in bits still :(
Found out what happened though, salesman took it out for a test drive with a customer, was early morning 11th Dec & slightly icy. Didn't have his wheels aligned after turning a corner and booted it, back went one way, he tried to correct it and ended up planting the other side into someones gate. Needs a new rear bumper, rear quarter panel & 2 new alloys. Dealership stung for ÂŁ5000! if it costs any less than that to repair they get the remainder back. Ouch.

And does the sales guy still work there?

I am sure they will get it right this time. I am not sure I would want a new bumper as you would then be relying on them painting it from scratch. At least this one has the layers of factory paint on it.

How frustrating for you having the car off the road. Mine is off the road for some paintwork I 'want' done in Feb and thats gonna be painful enough!

Ouch indeed!

think I'm going to get some rear drive skid training before I get mine. Am so used to 4wd than I'm afraid I'd do a similar thing. Never forgot the experience of test driving the A5 - salesman was driving and asked which way I wanted to go approaching a roundabout. I said right and he proceeded to boot it 1/3 of the way round. Thought we would be in the hedge but it just gripped and took off like a scalded cat. I suspect I'd be watching the scenery going past sideways out of the windscreen if I tried that in the Mustang without knowing the limits

The PZeros dont help matters, the point at which the back snaps out on a GT comes far far sooner than it does on a Ecoboost, either that or the torque is just easier to handle on the EB. You kind of know what its going to do, the GT keeps you guessing.

The bottom line is that you don't "boot it" with 400+ horsepower unless everything is in straight line. It takes a bit more finesse than that. The power delivery from the V8 should be smoother than the EB. The feeling of balancing the throttle, steering and grip in a RWD is worth learning and beats "booting it" any day.

Back on thread..... it would be interesting to see pics of the dealer car once repaired as an indication of whether there are any issues getting repairs done.
