Thanks for all your help everyone!

I really want to take advantage of S mode when possible, bit I was afraid I would screw up the car somehow if I didn't know exactly what I was doing.

Happy to see its not as hard as I thought it would be.

Thanks again!
Give it a week or so and the novelty will wear off. It's fun, but doesnt compare to driving a manual trans.

Can we get how to do the paddle shifting in layman terms? Or for dummies? haha

I don't doubt it. I do far too much stop and go to paddle shift on a daily basis, but its something I wouldn't mind playing with on longer drives with open roads.

I've only tried to use the paddles a couple of times... you start to get engine braking, and that feeling is just so unnatural and disconcerting that I immediately put it back in D.

lol, what?

how is engine braking unnatural? that's what is supposed to happen. the car shouldn't keep rolling at the same rpm when you're not accelerating...

I use engine braking EVERY day. Better for gas mileage too!

Unnatural compared to standard automatic transmission - I agree with that, it was very weird when I test drove automatic EB.

But one thing comes to my mind - if somebody wants to change the gears on his own, why buy automatic with paddle shifters and all this more or less stupid logic behind it ?

Not much to it...if you want to up shift or down shift the car just use the paddle shifter. It doesnt have to be in any "mode" per say, though when in sport mode it will give you more control then when in "D". More control meaning it will stay in "shift mode" longer before timing out and shifting for you.

Agree with Jimmy. The engine breaking and the feel is strange if you're used to an automatic.

It's a solid compromise for people that deal with heavy traffic, or for those that are physically unable to operate a clutch yet still enjoy shifting.

Does placing the transmission into S achieve the same shifting strategy as leaving it in D while toggling the Drive Mode into Sport+?

Other than losing the manual paddle control, I can't tell a difference in the shifting between these two scenarios.

I've never driven a manual car in my life, so I'm used to, when I let off the gas, the car upshifting and speed basically maintaining itself where it is. It feels unnatural when I let off the gas and get thrown forward as the car starts to decelerate immediately.
