I have been considering this for awhile now and I think I need a little extra push from the experts here. I am seriously considering pulling the trigger on a package deal from MAP today. The package includes the following:

1) MAP resonated cat back exhaust

2) MAP catted or cat less down-pipe (cant decide which one)

3) MAP CAI

4) Cobb AP

My questions / concerns are:

1) Should the DP be catted or cat less. I live in OH so I was leaning towards catted ?

2) Those of you who have installed the MAP stuff how is it holding up over time?

3) Would you consider this a good setup for and Ecoboost mustang PP manual that will be a daily driver once winter is over. Average mileage per day will be ~70 highway miles per day

4) What cautions should I be thinking about that I may be overlooking? I have read several threads about individual component but nothing on a package and its effects on engine life, fuel mileage etc... Just HP increase, TQ increase, heat issues etc..

5) With the Mustang only being out a short time should I wait to see what other products are coming out later and not fall victim to first to market / demand and see if any issue spring up from upgrades that others have done, I guess the question is what are the risks?

I apologize for the numerous question, but I am a noob to upgrades. This is my first mustang that I have saved for years to get so I want it to last but at the same time I want it to be bad-ass. I am looking for help from the experts to aid in me making an informed decision instead.

I would strongly consider getting an IC before a cat-back or intake. If you want to stick with MAP as a tuner they'll have an IC out before too long or you can look elsewhere if you want to buy things now.

I think you'll like it, but I would recommend an IC as well. I don't have one yet but it's coming soon =)

I will be ordering MAPerformances off-road downpipe, exhaust, turbosmart BOV, and Cobb tune very shortly. I think the parts from MAPerformance are TOP NOTCH from what I have seen and read. I do agree with what the guys above me said, an aftermarket FMIC is going to be a needed upgrade with these other bolt-ons. I was hoping that MAP would have a set of IC hardpipes and a decent FMIC released soon, from what I hear it won't be too much longer.

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like the FMIC is critical to the package. I will prob. wait then on pulling the trigger on the complete package to see what comes out. in regards to FMIC. I really appreciate the input. Thanks again.

1) I went catless. I kept the stock exhaust so worst case I can put the stock DP back on the car. Installation was not difficult. Removing the cat is a pretty big “bang-for-the-buck mod”.

2) Don’t think you will get much useful info at this point…I believe they began shipping things only a couple of weeks ago

3) Yes that is a good set up, but you should also add an Intercooler

4) Warranty…I would feel very comfortable with the OTS Cobb maps. Don’t think you have much to worry about. Obviously you are making more power so there is more stress on the powertrain…just have to understand that risk

5) I wouldn’t worry about being a first mover with that list of mods. Intakes and exhaust are pretty straightforward. From what I’ve seen, MAP makes quality stuff. Might want to do some research on purchasing an intercooler though. Also, the Cobb AP is a great device. You will always have the flexibility of going with a pro tune in the future.

I need like 2K to do what I want (FMIC, CAI, DP, CATBACK + Tune) I'll start small.... But, I'm definitely going with catch can, and intercooler first.

Then, my suggestion would be DP+TUNE, CATBACK then CAI

Great feedback, thanks for the help guys. I guess my next question is can anyone recommend an FMIC? I found one for 349 and another for 749 (race day). I also found a lot of debate about trimming shutters which really made the issue that much more frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a heads up, that's a lot closer to $2500-3000 in what you have listed there. I am in the same boat. Gonna make it happen, just waiting on tax return, etc.

It kind of depends on the power level you want to achieve. Usually the company selling the intercooler sources the core from another vendor and then welds the end tanks on so it fits the application. Some companies design their own core (Full Race). Generally, the core will either come from Garrett or a private label. Garrett cores will be slightly more expensive and are considered higher quality.

Generally you are looking for an efficiency and low pressure drop. Also, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. If your plans are to stay stock turbo you don't need a giant 1000hp intercooler. That just adds weight.

I went with the Ultimate Racing FMIC. It has a Garrett core and should be able to support ~400whp+. It also doesn't require irreversible modifications.

I have the catch can and FMIC already, but yup... You're correct :)

@ Acer, I have the FFTech FMIC (well, awaiting arrival). THey have a couple of different cores. I don't see myself ever upgrading the turbo on this car, so I went with their street core (EcoCore). The numbers this gets are great. As for the shutters... I plan on leaving them off. I don't see a need to keep them, as they will prevent airflow from reaching the FMIC.

Just curious, Did you get the charge pipe kit with yours as well? I have been looking these over and am thinking about picking one up, also considering the charge pipes as well.
