Short story, blew up clutch on road course when out of town. Got clutch replaced while out of town. Faught misfire codes and played with SCT tuner to try and relearn crank trigger on way home but ended up with code P0315 now.

I cannot reset this code no matter what I have tried. I out stock tune back in and no luck. Put performance tune back on and no luck. Car runs fine, but has the CEL.

Help.

Not sure if this will work, but worth a try. Go into "Engineering Test Mode" and see if you can view the DTC and then try to reset it there. The DTCs can be seen on the screen shown at time 0:32 in the video below.

Thanks but that didn't help out. I am waiting to hear back from the shop that installed it tomorrow. Hopefully they have seen this before.

Could you see the trouble code in Engineering Mode? Was it 'History' or 'Current'. If it's a current code you won't be able to reset it because it's currently happening in real time.

All it showed was an "X" in both. I can't reset it with my SCT4
If there is an X in both History and Current, then it's a current trouble-code which is also stored in history. Probably why it can't be erased, because if it's currently setting then it just resets when you attempt to clear it. You can only permanently clear historical codes.

You need to find out what's setting off the code and fix that before you can clear the code permanently.

Probably the obvious, but wouldn't that code be related to the crank position sensor? If the fault is related to that sensor, try a replacement sensor (used or new) and see if that resolves the issue.

I had both a BMW M3 and an earlier BMW 318 (M42 engine) and on both cars when the CPS shit the bed, neither would throw the code pertaining to that exact sensor... Don't know why coded were not present, but in each instance once the sensor was replaced and codes cleared the vehicle fired right up.

I've been told to disconnect the battery for a while and then touch the terminals together to discharge any residual power stored. This will reset the computer and hopefully this issue. Will report back late tonight.

You have to perform crankshaft relearn procedure with the proper scan tool.

Yes and I can do that with my SCT4, it is right in the menu. Problem is with out clearing the CEL you can't do it and I can't clear the code. I did the relearn and it said it was successful and I did something wrong (not sure what) and now P0315 is there and can't be removed.

Holoking up battery now and see what happens.

Well the CEL was still there and I couldn't clear it. The crank relearn kept getting errors so I just kept scrolling through the menu on the SCT4 and retrying and all of a sudden it worked. I reved it to 4175 rpm as per the on screen prompt and bingo, fixed.

Did you do the crank relearn and reload the tune and everything was fine?
