Fine, for honest discussion I will photograph my car at work today from 500 feet at close to sundown and we can look at the brake lights then. I will make this experiment as accurate and as honest as possible. I firmly believe that my brake light are easily seen at the laws requirements. I will provide unbiased information tonight.
This may not sway anyone's opinion but we have ranted about this for a while without any fact-based evidence. At least then we can see the results and let our emotions cool a bit while we discuss this.
Awesome been waiting for this:thumbsup:

Golf clap for the runs with sizzles crowd. I personally don't care about the super cool Rickycardo types with their tint. They die oh well, no big loss. They did things their way in the endless persuit of trying to look cool. Darwinism is a wonderful thing! I'm more concerned with some poor old lady or a housewife with a minivan full of small children plowing into the cool kids living on the edge. The majority of states have Head/Tail light tint laws in effect for a reason :headbonk:We can now officially lump this gem of a thread in with the auto vs manual or I4 vs V8 threads.:D
One of the biggest dickpost of all-time. If the tint is legal in the state the person lives in...WHO CARES!!! If it's not legal, then that person has to live with the consequences of whatever happens. Let's not act like there are more old ladies dying from rear lights being tinted too dark than from heart attacks! Lump it in with whatever you want, but this is an over reaction of epic proportions!!!

This is reminding of the argument over daily running lights.

So your saying you like your tint! This is exactly why America is SOO fucked up. If some dumbass kills someone while breaking a law! Well everyone should deal with it. You'd change your tune if it was your mother, wife or child. I'm sure if only one or two people a year are involved in a accident over this your ok with it because your willing to play the odds with your family and hopefully be fine. Well my teenage daughter was rearended and the guy that hit her swore up and down he didn't see her brake lights because she had the stupid tint on her tail lights! What your saying is fucking stupid! Hand your children a gun and tell them to go play while your at it. They should be fine also and if not........Just deal with it.:headbonk:

Daytime running lights have been mandatory in Canada for quite a few years, Its called conspicuity! .. a terrific safety feature for sure!

I didn't start this thread to fuel the fire! We are each able to do what we want and like to these cars. If it's illegal....well, guess you'll just have to deal with it when you get caught.

These are the laws here in good old BC Canada. We also MUST have a front plate!! App. $175 fine, if not!

If my mother couldn't determine the difference between a lightly smoked EXTREMELY BRIGHT LED lamp, and non smoked, and rear ended someone, it would be her fault. A) Following too closely (should have been farther back while she made it up in her mind what she was seeing) B) Too fast for conditions (if she was going slower she could have thought about what she was looking at more)

So yeah....I would consider it her fault. We're talking about LED lamps on 2015s, not the ricer VHT spray tint bullshit on 99-04 cars.

Not to mention the fact that the REST of the vehicle is stopped, idk about you guys, but when I look at another vehicle within a half a second or so I can determine if a vehicle is moving or stopped

At lunch today. I don't get to pick the weather, overcast today, 12:00 pm Chicago time. Parking lot at the local strip mall.
522 feet, 500 feet put me right in an aisle. Pictures taken with my cellphone. I wanted the worst case scenario for images.
As you can see 500 feet is a long way and the brake lights are visible. Standing there taking the pictures I could see the lights but they weren't blinding by any stretch.
I say it would be hard to be rear-ended and say you couldn't see the brake lights at 500 feet.
Traveling at 60 mph you cover 88 feet per second. To cover 522 feet takes 5.9 seconds. Assuming both cars are traveling 60 mph and my Mustang brakes from 60 to 0 in 250 feet that adds an additional 2.8 seconds of time to contact. Thats 8.7 seconds from the time my brakes lights illuminate until a vehicle behind me makes contact. Thats really a lot of time and distance.
I feel that the odds of my brake lights being to dim to be seen in time to avoid a collision are far too small for me to worry about. I'm fairly certain most rear end collision are due to inattention rather than brake lights being to dim.
This is only my take on this subject.

WAIT A GODDAMN MINUTE

you're saying you tinted your taillights

and you can see them from farther than 5 feet?

so after 10 feet your car doesn't turn into a black hole/target for other cars to just fucking smash into?

:lol::lol::lol:

There ya go naysayers.

DAMN...there's the proof!!! I understand his frustration, but it shouldn't be with everyone who has tint. Just those that are illegal. If you don't like the mod that's fine, just don't bash others who are doing it LEGALLY!!!

WHOA WHOA WHOA...your calculations are way off. You forgot the time that it takes for the light to go from your tail lights to the eyes of the following driver...all good. A rookie mistake!!!

Sorry, should have added that in. It takes 0.0000005315 seconds for the brake light light to cover the 522 feet.
I'm an engineer, we have numbers and are not afraid to use them!
