Blacked out non led tail lights - with a thick coat is one thing.

smoke vinyl on our EXTREMELY bright tail lights is another, but check your local laws.

texas is 1000 ft and i can see tinted mustang tail lights a solid half a mile away lol
This! hahaha not to mention hear some of them from 3 counties away.

but if you make your brake lights darker how are you going to trick your friends into getting temp blinded when youre showing them the car.

Trust me, it still does the trick

the other big thing is it can reduce the reaction time. You will react quicker to brighter more brilliant tail lights. If you have to ask yourself "is this car braking" then that hurts your reaction times. Its more difficult to distinguish at night between just lights on and braking. Old cars with old crap tail light design or their second tail light filaments burnt out are really guilty of this. This reduces your reaction time if you cant rely on their tailights but have to look if the car itself is getting closer to you so you can decide to brake or not. Anyone whos ever been behind a car with burnt out tail lights knows what this feels like. Especially if ALL lights dont work. To me LEDs taillights are a significant safety improvement for the ability to see at distance/low visibility and also the ability to react to them.

Brake lights are just a huge pet peeve of mine, may not bother others as much but it does for me.

I still do that to myself every time I get something out of the trunk.

I think if you tint them yourself you could have insurance issues. If they come from the factory they are required to meet state requirements, so something like the blacked out
'16 Camaro light option would be covered by your insurance.

I have a white 16' on the way, and I am going for the storm trooper look. If I didn't have a white car, I would have done exactly how Zemedici's gf did hers...I think that look is very aggressive. I understand the potential loss of visibility for other drivers, but a good driver will know when the brake lights are on; unfortunately, we don't live in a world where there are only good drivers.

I'm not going to go extremely dark on the brake lights, just a hint will do it for me. I personally think it's ridiculous if someone complains that they cannot see a slightly tinted brake light. Pay more attention to the road like everyone should, and there would be no problems.

And her lamps light up just fine, maybe some of ya'll need your eyes examined. These stoplamps are BRIGHT on these cars.
Nice Photo!

i wonder by this logic if tinting tailights voids insurance does that mean burned out tail lights can be refused insurance too in an accident? Dash cam can prove that

Hey guys, I just want to clarify for you that you cannot be denied coverage in the United States for having your tail lights tinted, even if the visibility is below your state's specified limit. For acts where you are technically breaking a law, you can only be outright denied coverage if your vehicle is used in the act of committing a felony (even that rule is pretty lax), and tinting your lights is not a felonious act.

You can possibly be found liable for an accident thought for your tinted headlights. In such a case, your liability insurance would cover the other vehicle's damage. Damage to your car would be covered under your Collision coverage (if you have it).

Tail lights are a safety feature. I'll never understand making them 50% less effective for some perceived esthetics. Is risking getting killed in a rear end collision worth it? :shrug:Exhaust is not a safety feature and doesn't stop a semi from rear ending you in the dark. So bad example.
it's not 50% less. tint is maybe 5% loss if that because the tails are so bright to begin with.

Something that everyone seems to be forgetting...... Not everyone on the road can see as well as you assume. Seniors, people that are color blind, those driving impaired, and people blind in one eye (my sister) are the first that come to mind. I'm sure there are other examples.

Decreasing the ability for any of these people to see your tail lights can be rolling the dice with your car. The reason the third tail light is required on vehicles now is because research found that it significantly reduced rear end accidents because people identified the brake lights sooner.

Tint or no tint, it's something to consider before you do it. Not everyone drives and interprets what cars are doing on the road like you.

I don't see any way tinted brake lights couldn't be seen clearly. The stock brake lights are truly blinding. Here's mine with the lighter tint from the Anchor Room. As side from that I'm a responsible adult and perfectly capable of enjoying my dangerous freedom. Therefore I will tint my lights, add a tuner, drive on summer tires and be just fine. You guys do what you want.

Case closed. A responsible tint does not adversely effect the visibility of the brake lights. Next.
