Back in the day when waiting for my Mustang GT to arrive I was the first and loudest to brag about the low low insurance premium of £157.68 (£350 excess) from Direct Line.

That low price was for new business with a full 12 years NCD transfer for just me driving and no extras. I could have genuinely got that price by changing my Focus but in the end I got some transferred NCD from driving my wife's car and added her to the policy with legal protection and hire car plus and the actual premium was £340.55 which was not too bad I thought.

During the year we took the Mustang to Europe so added Direct Line Rescue breakdown recovery and even added my 23 year old son as a named driver.

Anyway the renewal premium came through today for a whopping £1052.70 .

I gave Direct Line a call and took off both my wife and son as named drivers, removed rescue and hire car plus and the reduced premium after a haggle is now £496.10

So this is an increase of over £150.00 for less cover and no named drivers and I even insure my Focus with them and can't drive both at the same time.

I blame you lot for smashing up your cars but maybe we need to expect some insurance hikes for Mustang drivers.

And on top of that the vehicle tax renewal came though today too for £515.00.

Don't think it's limited to the Mustang, all car insurance has had a decent hike on it over the last 12 months.

My insurance is due as we have a multicar policy so have only had the Mustang on cover for 6 months. The Mustang component has risen by £14 this year although it should be noted that at just over £400 for the year it wasn't the cheapest to begin with. Having got a couple of fresh quotes for comparison it looks like i'll be sticking with Aviva for the next year; they have all my mods on cover and it saves the hassle of re-explaining it all to another company. They're a good insurer if every bit as clueless as the next lot about specialist cars.
Apparently insurance is going up around 16% this coming year...

with the same increase, I need to find £8000 down the back of the sofa....

Pretty sure, from my recent (all 5 years of having driven/learnt to drive) that every 'Auto renew' quote is obscene. I'm changing insurer every year unless the same one stays low.

It's quite odd; how the premium hikes up so much, the odd £10-50 people wouldn't notice or care too much about changing; but £300+ is quite absurd.

Even now the price hikes are insane with 20+ years no claims and being an old git.

Amusing was Norwich Union once quoted me a 12k renewal for my 2nd year after the first year was only £480.

I still change insurers every year and never take the auto-renew quote.

Generally the rule is dont just auto renew, but you know my renewal is about the cheapest i can find. Its up 24% on last year which was £290, this year they want £360. I've been round the internet and back again, price comparisons + the ones not on the comparison websites and nobody can touch that price. Phoned A Plan off the back of a few recommendations and they couldn't get below £600!

Uh... I live downtown Atlanta, GA and my 6-month policy costs >1K with one car and $500 deductibles and my car is kept in a secured garage, not out on the street or in some gated lot. Frankly I think you have it made, even with the pound getting its butt kicked right now.

Oh, I have no tickets/accidents in the last 5 years and I'm even getting discounts for that.

We make up for it by being bent over and arse raped for fuel costs. Just remind me how much a gallon is it over there (even your wrong sized gallons)

Depends on the insurance company I am with Classicline been with them for 5 years, when i Needed them they were just brilliant. Speeding car hit me in the 1st year, they give me a great payout, within 5 days of the accident the money was in my bank account, left up to me to do with as i liked. Upgraded the S197 and come out of it very well
For that and they cover the Wedding cover, and Breakdown here and overseas, it would have to be an amazing deal for me to leave them

On the phone I haggled Direct Line down to £496.10

I went online and got a quote for Direct Line new business and only managed to get £536.80 and that was actually cheaper WITH adding my wife as named driver.

These prices are way over the quote of £157.68 that I had this time last year.

I spoke to a broker recently that said prices had risen 17% in the past year or so.. that's a hell of a hike, and reflected in both my, and my wife's polices this past month. Not much we can do but pay up :(
