What u done?
similar miss-adventure, back end went on black ice at 40mph sent me off the slip road onto the verge and into the scrub.

the scrub tore up the wing and door up and left dents right back to the rear quarter, left a parts list of near 40 parts needing to be replaced.

only awaiting one part now but the latest batch failed quality control so looking end of may before i get mine back

Could well be. I can't tell for definite from the dash cam, could be ice could be water. All I know is trees + Mustang doesn't go well.

Yeah i had a choice, head on into a lamp post or squeeze past and clip the scrub.

The annoying thing was i thought i had got away with minimal damage, i was so pissed off when i got out and see the damage.

the dash cam footage doesn't even look that bad, I'd put it up here but I'm not sure how to put a video on here

that's rather worrying, looked like you was doing hardly any speed, pleased you are ok. if the tires are that bad, how can they be allowed on the cars? how come no one has sued Ford?
I don't know if anyone on here has owned a S197 Mustang, there was a crash in America, where the air bag deployed and one person got cut from a piece of metal that blow out with the airbag, he sued for millions. There are still thousands of S197s in the US and over here waiting for the new part to be built. It's going to take many years and many millions to get it all sorted

Yeah all the speed is logged on the bottom of that video, i just hit 40, which was a straight line acceleration in 3rd.

I drove my S197 like a baby, I was told, well that is the sort of speed I would be doing, and you speed up off the bend into the straight, if its proved its the tires, can't you sue?
But I don't get why people in the US are not having any issues and their weather is crazy worse
They have put A/S on the CS, why not put them on the UK cars?

US owners are used to RWD and Mustangs.

Though the conditions were not optimal for any summer tyre being a cold winters wet/damp morning the biggest issue here is driving to the conditions, in such conditions literally hold a steady speed, do not accelerate at all, remember slow in, slow out. The video shows continuous acceleration (yet slow) throughout the corner which tightens just as 40mph is being hit, the car simply ran out of grip and the tyres threw in the towel.

I am used to rear wheel drive and even I was nearly caught out a few days into owning mine in January on a moist slip road, putting it into 4th and thinking it will handle full throttle acceleration no issue, well I was wrong as at 70mph the tyres broke traction with no warning and sent the car sideways, it was quite shocking but corrective steering and modulation of throttle saved that, the traction did diddly squat but I was in Sport mode. As I am still on the Pzero I know they suck in the cold and wet as such I leave the car in normal or even select wet mode and keep my inputs smooth and keep with the slow in and fast out principals.

End of the day the tyre is fine, yeah in cold wet conditions they are pretty damn poor compared to some other summer tyres like MPSS and are nowhere near as good as a winters sport tyre.

But its not all down to the tyre, the biggest issue and no offence meant it is the driver, stick the car in wet mode, be very smooth and gentle with any inputs and its hard to put a foot wrong.

For all of you who have had an miss-hap my condolences and for those of you who have not in colder and wet conditions, select wet mode, be gentle and take your time. Some driver tuition and track days with big run off is highly recommended to learn how to handle the car for when it does go wrong, but the best approach is to never be in the situation for when it does go wrong.

Also for next winter might I suggest if you intend on using your Mustang you invest in some good quality winter sports tyres from likes of Continental or Michelin as the difference they make on a cold wet winters morning is incredible and they even work in snow. Or even a very good wet performing summer tyre like MPSS, CSC6, F1AS3, RS3 would all be a big improvement over the Pzero.

End of the day I am just glad no one has being hurt and the only damage is cosmetic and of course pride, stay safe guys, the weather is still junk out there.

It is pretty simple - most people don't drive RWD in the winter, only FWD and 4x4

Most people have a couple of cars and the stang would stay away if the weather is bad. Plus the town is pretty good at clearing the roads. We used to get 3 to 4 foot overnight dumps and the roads would be clear by 10.30 am - but then our council tax was 20,000 usd per year- so you kind of expect it and a gold plated snow plough to follow you around personally

Gibbo is totally right, that was a morning where it went from dry to wet and icy/snowy on my drive, so it didn't even cross my mind to turn on wet mode, that combined with a poorly timed acceleration, and a lack of RWD experience is the main cause of the accident.

I will definitely be looking at some grippier tyres when i come to the time when i have the money for new wheels.

But lesson learnt always use wet mode!
