Orange "Lemon" For Sale?

Sorry for not being able to post the link...but Orleans Ford, Medina NY has a low mileage Comp. Orange for sale $56k...Carfax has it branded as a lemon/manufacturer buy back.

I'd pay $40k, no problem, upon full disclosure of whatever made it a lemon to begin with (and proven repairs)...and it has to be a track

Salvaged and lemon title are different. 99% of the time a salvage or rebuilt title is an insurance loss due to accident/flood/vandalism. Lemon branded titles are due to a buyback from the manufacturer.

Sold at Manheim's Pittsburg auction, WITH the branded title, for $52,900. Cant believe a Ford dealer would pay that for a lemon car. That's nuts. And it looks to be a tech pack car too.

A Salvage tittle is also a branded title. The difference is that once a car is paid off as a "total loss" buy the insurance company, no matter whether an accident, flood, vandalized, etc., the car is sold as a salvage title vehicle. You cannot register a salvaged title vehicle for public road use in most states. You have to apply for a reconstructed title. Each state has a different set of processes to apply/obtain a reconstructed title. If the state grants a reconstructed title, you can then register it for public road use.

A buyback car will typically not have a salvaged title but the title will still be branded.

Branaded title vehicles will sell for MUCH less than non branded title vehicles initially. As time passes this becomes less and less and issue.

In November of 2002 I purchased a salvaged title Z28 with 8k miles. It was in a fresh water flood that entered the cabin but never reached the seat bottoms. I ripped out the seats and all the carpet and let it totally dry out for weeks. I then purchased new carpet and a really nice used set of seats. I had the car until 2010 and when I sold it I got more than I paid for in 10 years ago. The buyer could see that the car was repaired 10 years ago and had regular maintenance done and never had an issue. Based solely on my experience I think if you buy and keep a buyback vehicle eventually, that will not be a big deal for resale.

The reason I threw out there 35k is I have a part time job buying/selling Corvettes for parts and resale for a Corvette grave yard. Last week we purchased a buyback 2015 Z06 with 4k miles for 45k. Based on the original sticker price of 90k, this was more than a 50% loss in value due to the branded title.

Sure, if someone wants a particular car, it's worth what they will pay but if this car crossed the auction block at Manheim I suspect it would not go over 35k. Probably more like 30k unless these is someone who really wants it.:cheers:

P.S. If you buy a car that is branded as buyback, salvage or reconstructed vehicle, you really need to get agreed upon coverage insurance. Any insurance company will insure a buyback or reconstructed title vehicle and rates won't be any higher than a non branded title. The problem is if you have a total loss, the insurance company will then see it's a buyback or reconstructed vehicle and will give you MUCH less than what a car with a clean title would get. Many don't understand this.

I realize Lemon Laws vary by state but I bought a Buy-Back VW GLI a few years back. It had a replaced engine at +/- 1,500 miles. Got a great deal on the car, full warranty and the paperwork even stated that VW would buy it back within 12/12 if I was not satisfied with the car. I drove it for 2 years and traded it in for a Tacoma and I don't recall the trade-in value being severely affected by the branded title. They have to disclose why the car was re-purchased and what repairs were made.....

I live a little more than an hour from the dealer. They have a solid reputation for having quality used cars, specifically mustangs.
