So I got my perfect Stang and due to my ignorance combined with enthusiasm, I assumed that big touch screen had NAV somewhere. It does not. I don't use nav a lot, but a trip to Denver etc and it can come in real handy. I see replacement head units for $2K!. I doubt there is a way to factory update. Do you guys:
1.Go with garmin and just toss one on the dash when you need it
2.. Mount your phone some where? Google maps or WAZE?
3. Can the phone plug via USB to the head unit or interface at all? (I have Sync 3)
4. Any option I am missing here?

Thanks!!!!
I am in the same boat. I used the Waze one time and it gave voice direction, over the SYNC3 radio and was very helpful.

You can look for used NAV APIM on eBay. There's a shop from Sweden (I think) that sells for $599 with your VIN programmed in. Looked simple enough to install it (it mounts on the back of display), and you will have factory NAV. Your existing radio has GPS hookup already so no worry there.

It was an unfortunate oversight on me when I ordered the car, thinking the Premium trim included the NAV. I decided not to get the used NAV APIM. instead will use waze and Garmin for time being, as I will probably trade up to 2020 GT 6 speed. What a terrible shame -- my EB Premium has only 1400 miles.

I may be able to do this wi-fi. Not sure. On phone with Ford now... She is more confused than I am. says I'm v 4. Lol. Car says v 1. I may wing it or god forbid, call dealer. Now I'm finding out something special about 16s vs 17+... The saga continues

Thank you. No luck so far. I have an appt w/ dealer next week. My flash is not 32gb. The file is only 2gb but that could make a difference. Also I don't think I have waited that long for something to happen. I'll try a bit of patience and then maybe throw in the towel. I could go buy a and large thumb drive I guess. I have heard "cannot exceed" stipulations but never "it has to be this big" requirements. The file is JR3T-14G381-AM

All I needed was some help from some members and some perseverance! I did not have to buy anything. Android Auto works great and so does Waze which I was told would not work. Lot of info out there, not all of it reliable. View attachment 344483 View attachment 344487

Thanks- you are right of course. What a PITA. I need a cable when I'm going to use Nav, but better than a Garmin, new unit, etc.

I'll just say this, even apple doesn't recommend using apple maps. Otherwise yes.
Ive been using apple maps for like 6 years.. ive never been once led a astray or bad roads?. I am a apple devout as well. Never even opened up google maps, but I have iPhones since 2009 so its all I know.

For clarification... All that's needed from that link is #3 and only needed for Apple Car Play.

So if you have Software version 2.0 you need the 17 Hub but if you have Software version 3.0 you don't need the newer hub ?

FWIW, I have Software version 2.0 and I purchased the hub for the 17. I never got around to updating to the 3.0 version because Apple Carplay and waze work on the 2.0 and 17 hub.

That wasn’t an endorsement of either, just a possible solution for the OP. I use the navigation system that came with the car (which he doesn’t have).

I think car play is severely over rated. Waze? Meh. I do run Waze on the phone on long trips for the information on police locations, which is handy. Otherwise I prefer having the information come through on the dash and ability to use my steering wheel to load destinations, POI searches etc. POI searches? I go with Sync 3.

When I have both running it is interesting to see which one reroutes first because of traffic and the routes selected. I’d say they’re about the same. As background, I have had a 2 1/2 hour commute on Monday and Friday for about five years so eventually you get bored enough with the drive that Sync 3 vs Car Play vs Waze passes for entertainment. Sync 3 is a pretty good system (having used Audi’s and Toyota’s, I’d pick Sync 3).

All good man, just bustin'. Plus he said he had an Android.
I knew you were, liked your Stockholm comment (actually made me laugh out loud). Follow on post was for clarity, no nav... use car play or android auto, but the Sync 3 nav is good.
